Anyone know if a goldfish can grow out of aggression? I have a common goldfish and a pleco and i used to have two others with him, one died of velvet the other i have no clue how she died, but he would always ram into the female and knock her into the walls and nip at her fins. i really want another goldfish because his tank is so empty with just him and the pleco. But at the same time i don't want to risk another fish's life nor do i have more room for a 20+ gallon tank if he is still aggressive. he is great with the pleco, but i'm really worried about other fish :/

Hi ^^ I have two babies comets for 6 months now and like you I don't have the money for a bid tank. So I found a solution. I bought a bix box at a dollar store where I can put 20L of water. It's pretty big and transparent. And my comets are in for 6 months now and pretty happy. It's cheap and save :)

Yuuki_Konno_ Yuuki_Konno_ also, there eyes are delicate and can easily scrape or get damaged on decorations. If you do want decorations I would use live plants, smooth rocks or silk plants. I don't use rocks though it just means more to clean. But I do have lucky bamboo plants in the tank

the difference from telescopic eyes and Orandas is, Orandas grow a growth on the top of their heads/hoods that looks like a raspberry these can grow very large (The hoods that is) and everything Solid Gold has told you is correct and remember you don't get black Moores as all Moores should be black unless Calicoed I was a Member of the Gold Fish Society Of Great Britain until I took ill.

+axel valerian You never should; you can introduce bad water to your tank. Also, it raises the level of water in your tank, which could make it overflow, though I think her tank was fine wince all the bag were able to float in it without it overflowing.

You don't want to get that water into your filtered and cycled tank

Hey, where can I buy a pump? Its a very tedious and manual process for me to clean my turtles cage. I remove most water but some of it I can't get out with the bucket I use to scoop the water out.

i found some telescope goldfish on dandyoranda's and the price was worth it. it was worth seeing them swim majestically through my 5 gallon tank until my saltwater eel ate him up. but he choked on the last goldfish or something cause he died later so i flushed him down the toilet after i pissed on him.

Goldfish get along with other goldfish very well. They usually don't get along with anything else though, they tend to kill anything that's not a goldfish. but I have a tank with a giant goldfish and a few angel fish as well as some feeder fish and they get along just fine strangely.

yes! goldfish change colors sometimes as they get older. My goldfish used to be as small as 2 inches and was a very light orange. now that she is 8 inches long she is a dark orange.

I got a carnival fish...and some Wal-Mart fish...the Wal-Mart fidh died in a couple days. The fish were barely even fed at Wal-Mart and they lived in dirty tanks. I even saw dead fish in there...don't get fish from Kentucky...

+Lacey Robinson The reason you lift them with your hand is because you don't want the icky water that they have had to travel in, in your tank. The water at this point is no good. Also by not putting the water in the tank it lessons the possibility for disease to be transferred to your tank. Since Fancy goldfish shouldn't be netted the best way to move them is by hand.

You can get them from most online stores that cell goldfish but keep in mind there is no such thing as a panda goldfish because when they mature they will either go completely white or red and white.

nah, using your hands is much easier because you know you aren't hurting your fish. plus you don't want bad water in your tank and a net can hurt and rip your fish's fins.

Also you can't let them swim out of the bag because all the nasty stuff in the bag would mess with the fish and the tank and probably ruin the cycle. And you can't use nets because they take even more slim coat off of a goldfish and it could hurt their fins.

+dukpoki You're right. The stress doesn't really mean much cuz there is gonna be stress either way. The fish have a mucus coating on them that protects them from infections, and lowers stress. When you touch them, the oils on your skin can remove some of that mucus.

+Riley Corkery You need to make sure your tank has the right friendly forms of bacteria which are capable of converting ammonia (produced by the fish in their waste) to nitrite, then from nitrite to less harmful nitrate.This is called 'cycling' the tank.
To check that a tank is ready to have livestock added to it you would add ammonia to it and then test the water for ammonia after a while.If the ammonia levels are zero you then know that the tank is safe and ready. :)

I just got a really big bowl with rainbow rocks in i only have 3 fish in i want to get an even bigger bowl so i can get more fish but they keep deading (one the size of an average persons head). apparently i need a frilter in my bowl but i dont know what a frilter is can someone help ive alredy bean frew 16 goldfishes.

+Jack smith like an actual bowl or a tank? If they are in a bowl she has a video about why bowls arn't good for fish in general but if you have a tank it just depends on the size of your tank, gold fish give off a lot of ammonia (which she goes through) and generally what I recommend to my customers if they're getting a gold fish is getting at least a 40 gallon, petco has a dollar per gallon sale until the 7th. If you're not sure what a filter is I would recommend doing more research to help your fish out but you can go on amazon and look up fish filter, she uses the same filter as I do it's a Fluval Aqua Clear (great brand) for my 20 gallon I went for a filter can could filter a 40 gallon tank. Hope that helps!

+gustina242 Just a few notes, Fancy Goldfish typically aren't meant for feeding so that can be seen as cruel. Also, live feeder fish typically provide little to no nutritional value and can actually spread disease so please don't do it if you like your fish to be disease and parasite free.

Can anyone help me, i currently have 3 goldfish in a 180 litre tank, the black moor has had a problem for a while with whitish on the edge of his fins. I thought that its either fungus or fin rot, now my oranda seems to have blood streaked fins and his tail looks like a bit has torn off which has definitely happened today so i know for definite that he has fin rot. However the problem is that i don't know if to treat the whole tank as my small ryukin seems to be fine and the only tank i have for quarantine is my old 10 gallons which seems small for one fish never mind two, what does everyone suggest..

Would you ever think about doing a complete water change video with that pump? I use a python for my 55 gallon goldfish tank, but I have bone cancer and it is still kind of difficult. That pump would be amazing. A person would also be able to run the fish tank water out to water your flowers or something instead of losing it down the drain. That would be awesome!

She used Tahitian moon sand in some of her videos. It's made by Caribsea & you can get it online pretty much anywhere like Amazon, Petco or Petsmart. It can be hard to find in stores.

Hi Solid Gold....quick question that is very hard to find an answer to online. I have a ranchu and he has some red "dots" or spots around his head. It is not hole in the head disease and he has had them before and they went away.

Any ideas???? I can always send a pic. But, I have a feeling it is a common thing to happen to them since I have seen it before. Fish seems very healthy otherwise.

Do you use the gel food on a regular basis? I intermix sinking pellets and peas with my goldies to avoid digestive issues, which they succumb to very easily. I'm wondering if switching to the gel solely, would be a better choice for their health.

+Aly Dawn Nobody can know with absolute certainty what the perfect diet is for any pet - just because the science is constantly improving and none of us are all-knowing, no matter how many studies we do. Therefore there can be no single "100% nutritionally complete" diet. For this reason, variety is key. Pick at least two different high quality foods and feed both of them in about equal amounts. I feed Saki Hikari sinking pellets and Repashy Soilent Green gel food. However, I tend to exclusively feed gel food to sensitive fish, floaty-prone fish, or fish recovering from shipping because it's easier for them to digest.

+epiclids The kirin is a longtail telescope (and not a butterfly) because his tail lobes are deeply forked, like a standard fantail. A butterfly tail has minimal to no forking and it should also spread out on a horizontal plane.

Seems to me I see the reef guys putting new fish in buckets and then slowly dripping tank water into the bucket until the fish is in mostly tank water. Reef fish are usually more delicate than fresh, so I thought that would be safest.

+Vivian Jean During travel, the fish releases ammonia into the bag water (through waste and respiration). Fish are typically fasted for a couple of days prior to shipping to cut down on the amount of ammonia released into the shipping bag, but it still happens. As soon as you open the bag and expose the shipping water to the outside air, it interacts in such a way as to make the toxins even more harmful. It's counter-productive to keep the fish in the increasingly more toxic shipping water for longer just so you can try to match water parameters. Think about the parameters you're talking about matching anyways. Ammonia - you don't want to match that! You want to go from the high ammonia of the shipping water to zero ammonia in the tank. Nitrite - same. Nitrate - there won't be any nitrate in the shipping water or (hopefully!) the aquarium. Temperature - this can easily be matched by floating the sealed shipping bag for 20 minutes. pH - this is the only one that may be different. It should not be too drastic of a change though, and certainly not detrimental. I (and many other great goldfish keepers) have been doing it this way successfully for years. Hope that helps! :)

Ive seen online that pro goldfish keepers say that you should get the fish in as soon as possible as long as the temp is right.

Good practice, depends how tough the fish are. I have all african cichlids and they are so darn hardy I don't bother.

They have such beautiful fins! I try to get mine to look like that with high quality food and water and they never do. I'm thinking Dandy Oranda's fish must just be a wayyy better quality fish to begin with... So glad to see a new video again!
