I have a heater in the sump filter of the Quaratine tank, and in the sump filter of the 240 gallon tank. I set both heaters to about 83F, and I use a digital thermometer to fine tune the temperature. I have the same water source for all tanks and the automatic water change system makes the parameters pretty close to each other. The larger tank with the substrate and rocks typically will have a slightly higher PH than the bare tanks but all within 1 PH...not enough to shock the discus. Thanks for the question!

Otos and plecos will get the green algae, and the SAEs will eat the hair and blackbeard algae. I also limit the lights to 6 hours with a siesta period...the timer comes on in the morning before work, turn off during the day, and turn on again when I get home from work.
The siesta period allows the CO2 to build up again so that it is at max levels when the lights come back on (got this from reading Diana Walstad). This keeps the algae at a minimum!

The plant above the water is an Anubias Frazeri. I bought it as a small plant online a couple of years ago and it was tied to a driftwood submerged in one of my 20gal tanks. After a few months, it had a leaf that poked above the water, and slowly, it started shooting more leaves above the water until it was fully emersed!
