E' un pesce da branco e dovrebbe convivere con 4/5 esemplari, quindi in acquari non inferiori ai 600 litri ma può stare anche da solo, è bene non metterlo in compagnia di pesci piccoli, che verrebbero mangiati. Ha un carattere molto aggressivo. Gli unici pesci compatibili sono grandi pesci pulitori come ancistrus oppure Arowana o black bass in grandi acquari. Onnivoro ma principalmente carnivoro è un vorace predatore e si nutre di invertebrati acquatici; larve di zanzara e gamberetti, piccoli pesci, anfibi, pezzi di carne di carogne di animali morti, sradica le piante acquatiche più giovani. non viene citato il fatto che la zucchina all astronotus fa benissimo io sconsiglio sempre di dare pesci vivi a gli astronotus, 1 peche anche in natura e raro che gli mangino 2 perche ce sempre la possibilita di incontrare bateri che poi andra a mangiarsi. e una specie onnivora ma che si nutre prevalentemente di verdure, semi, radici e come citato nel video larve ecc. il suo pasto preferito sono i lombrichi, ne va matto, in natura molto raramente si nutre anche di piccoli pesci vivi (MOLTO RARAMENTE). se inseriti tutti assieme gli oscar possono vivere anche con specie piu piccole, io ho 2 astronotus di 20cm che vivono tranquillamente con 2 corrydores.

+fabian tamboroni in un anno inizia ad essere già un bel pesciotto!!! cresce fino a 3/4 anni, poi si stabilizza, cmq dipende dalle dimensioni della vasca e dalla salute del pesce

vi volevo chiedere una cosa io ho comprato una lumaca per acquario di medie dimensioni di colore giallo molto vivace gira per l'acquario.....Un giorno ho scoperto che al mio negoziante ne sono arrivate un bel po di quella specie e ho pensato di prenderne un'altra.Secondo voi possono fare le uova?Come si fa a distinguere il loro sesso?
