does water parameters make a difference in fertilization?
don't use RO water in your tanks, or is your tap water hard or soft? Cam this make a difference in successful fertilization of the eggs?

Just get a small 5-10 gal tank and have the eggs in there ALONE till they are bigg enough to go into a tank of their own.
Natalie Watson
Natalie Watson - 9 years ago
Are your Angel's in a tank alone? They feel threatened so they will eat their eggs. My angels ate their spawn 4 times. This time I decided to let them fan them for the couple of days and on the 3rd day I took them out and put a Air stone next to the eggs to keep oxygen flow. Now they are wiggling and about to be free swimmers.

Strange, my grandma's angelfish also like laying eggs on the heater. The only problem is that the parents or other fish end up eating them all within the next several days after they're laid. We tried moving them or separating them with a net, but it hasn't been successful so far.

This is a great video!  I've had some slight experience with guppies & later on, betas.  When I was in elementary school, this friend of mine gave me 2 males and 1 female... within a couple of months I had what appeared to be hundreds of fish!  I didn't know the babies are referred to as frys (and without an extra tank, the fry make nice food for their parents!)  OY... Live & Learn!!   I bought one of those new aquariums "My Fun Fish", it has a pretty cool self cleaning system built in, so I'll get a Beta and see how that works.

+AnimalLover Even if you feed them frozen bloodworms, they were still alive at some point-it's not any different than feeding them brine shrimp to keep them healthy. Aside from contradicting yourself, I feel like you're a very young troll or something :P Things need to eat, everything lives, whether it be flora or fauna. If you don't like it, don't get them. (Personally I wouldn't want to feed them flakes every day, all day.. variety/live food is great for them and some species of cichlid need it.)

+AnimalKingdom I put a couple guppy fry in with mine to help train them to eat flakes but they refuse. BBS is just best in protein and overall wellness for the fry I think so it's no big deal to me.

Mine eat flakes, they didn't eat it right away it just took them a few days and they got used to the flakes, now, they love them.
Volpierein
Volpierein - 9 years ago
Babies usually won't eat flakes or anything. The movement of the BBS makes them want to eat. I've tried feeding my babies flakes and decapitated brine shrimp eggs when I was having trouble with my hatchery but they refused to eat it. Feeding them BBS and micro worms are the best choices.

What is your secrete in raising the frys succesfully with no deaths?? I am on my thrid batch and they are dying on me. They are in a 20 gallon high, with two sponge filters, with a ten gallon heater, with the temp kept around 85 or 86 farenhite. I am feeding them twice a day with hikari first bite. I had 40 now I only have 3. one dies every day. they are also growing very slowly. One of them in there is from my first batch about a month ago and he is still small. I change the water everyday about 25 percent. what am I doing wrong?? Also water is good. I test it regularly. so I do not know what is wrong. Tell me your routine and what you do please. thank you.

I realized later, that my heater was not putting out enough heat. I bought a new heater and put in better sponge filters. Now I also feed them baby brine shrimp three times a day. You should check out my channel and watch my vids. Sub to me and I will sub you back :)

Whenever I tried hakari, my fries die too :(
later, I came to know the shop keeper was selling expired feed (they reprint the date) and that was the cause.

I used brine shrimp babies and all went fine. It was the first time I got my babies survived :)

Great video...looks like you had great success with your angel fry.  My angels spawned unexpectedly (I didn't even realize I had a male and female until it happened...) and I gave raising the fry a go myself.  May I ask, how often per day did you feed them?  And what was your water temperature??  My fry made it to day 17, but compared to yours were developing extremely slow.  I've read tons of information via the internet, but I just don't understand what I did wrong.  So disappointing!!  Any information you could allow would be appreciated!!  BTW...I'm a fellow North Carolinian as well!!  Go Panthers!! :)
