Yes, you can use the filter even when the light is off.

Should you see a blue lite in window when uv is working?

Aquascape's Ultraklean Pressure Filters do not use an LED light for the indicator light, it is merely a plastic lens which dims the light provided by the UV bulb. In order to protect the vision of our customers, we have designed this view port to be relatively dim. To see if the bulb is on, it is best to view the port at night or in a dark space. If necessary, you can remove the cover that sits around the ballast, this will provide a clear, broader glow.

This could be a fairly frequently asked question. But does having a UV bulb in the same chamber as the bio-balls not kill off any any beneficial bacteria as well? Or is there an internal tube that shields the bio-balls?

+Kevin Bauer The Quertz sleeve is used to protect the UV Bulb. We have another tube that the quertz sleeve goes into. When the water goes into the UltraKlean it goes down through the BioBalls, and gets sucked up the second tube in a spiral effect around the UV Bulb then back into the bio balls. This tube is what protects the beneficial bacteria from the UV Bulb.

Is there any information on how to install the UltraKlean Filter. I can't seem to find any anywhere. It seems like it would be a good fit for my pond. I have a 2600 gal. pond with a biofalls filter set up but I'm not happy with the water quality. I'd like to use this along side the biofalls filter system, but I would like to know how to retro fit it into the system I'm using. I understand how the filter works but not sure if this is something i can bury up to the top of the canister to hide the bulk of the filter or not. Also how does the intake work? Do I have and intake pipe just hanging out in the pond or should this be somewhere else. Should it be in the skimmer box that my current pump is in. Right now i have a skimmer box with a 3100 gal/hr pump flowing through a 2" flexible pvc pipe up approximately 7' of height to a a biofalls filter. I'd love to add this in somewhere but how or where would i add it? Please advise. I like the product but need help. Thanks

So if I have a 1500-2000 gallon pond, with a skimmer/waterfall biofilet - where would be the best place to install a Ultraclean 2000

We personally like to install them close to the skimmer to keep all of the electrical together in one area. It really makes no difference where it is installed though just as long as you are getting the correct flow out of it & the Biofalls®. We can further assist you if we know the pipe runs, pipe diameters & elevation differentials.

Are you backwashing with pond water and dumping it outside the pond?  Isn't that going to lower your pond level quite a bit?  I love the idea of not opening the canister to clean the filter though.

Yes, this would result in a water change. So when you backwash you can divert that water into planting beds (assuming no salt), you would then add fresh water to your system to bring it back to the correct level and then add your pond detoxifier.
