How to Build a Small Pond Items You Will Need: 7 ft. x 10 ft. pond boss® pond skins® Pond Liner pond boss® Complete Filter Kit with Pump pond boss® ½” ID Flexible Tubing pond boss® Floating Lilies (optional) Rocks and mulch for landscaping Rope or string to map the shape of the pond Shovel & Wheel Barrel Instructions: 1. You can start by using a piece of string or rope to mark the shape and location of the pond. For the 200 gallon pond, the overall dimensions will be approximately 3 ft. x 6 ft., with a depth of 1.5 ft. 2. Once you are happy with the shape, start digging the first tier of the pond. We recommend having levels in your pond. This will provide a shelf or step to hold plants, accessories, and more. 3. Now dig the second tier of the pond. Keep some dirt for leveling if needed. 4. Lay the liner. There should be at least a 10 in. overhang. TIP: If roots and/or debris are present, line the bottom with old carpet or sand to protect the liner from punctures. 5. Now begin filling your pond. Adjust the liner edges, smoothing any wrinkles as it fills. TIP: Stop filling at the halfway-full point. 6. Assemble the Complete Filter Kit with Pump using the nozzle head of your choice. 7. Place the pump assembly in the center of your pond and continue filling the pond with water. 8. We also recommend adding Chlorine Remover before adding any fish or plants to water. Chlorine Remover detoxifies heavy metals from water and instantly removes chlorinates and chloramines. 9. Once the pond is full of water, secure the liner with stones. TIP: We recommend adding a ledge of decorative rocks around the perimeter to hide the liner edge. The ledge can be a couple of inches deep. 10. Now fold the liner under and trim the excess. You can then landscape around your pond with plants and mulch to disguise the liner edge. 11. Add floating lily pads to your pond for an additional touch (these can be real or fake). Enjoy! Before You Build A Pond Consider the Following: Safety. Always dig with caution. Call 811 or your local utility company before you begin digging to locate buried pipes or power lines on your property. Location. Consider how the water garden will enhance your landscape. Elevation. Your pond should not be built on a slope or grade. If it is located at the lowest elevation of the yard you will have rainwater run-off that will muddy the water, wash away fish, and destroy plants. Sunlight. If you wish to include plants that require moderate to full sunlight, you will need to choose a location with a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight. http://www.thepondboss.net
