What do you use for filtration? I would love to build a pond for our ducks

I don't use any filtration other than a few water plants but it seems to be doing fine. If fish or other animals were in the water I'd really look into it though.

Your pond looks good, although if the pond is going to be permanent, then I highly recommend using butyl rubber as a pond liner. It has a very long lifespan, (25 years at least) resists ultra violet light (which deteriorates pvc or polythene pond liners) and is very tough. Good to see a natural method of pest control being used ie frogs etc. Also worth putting some 'insect hotels' on the allotment such as piles of old logs etc to attract ground beetles - especially the Violet ground beetle which feed on slugs and snails.

Lovely Greens • Garden Living on the Isle of Man There is a beetle called the 'Devils Coach horse' beetle which is found on the IoM and will feed on garden pests. Unusual looking critter as it will curve over its body as a defensive gesture - usually when disturbed. Harmless to humans - a insect version of The Terminator for garden pests.

+TK42138 I don't think we have that beetle on the Isle of Man (?) but insect hotels are a great idea.

I have something similar to that in my yard but my father put an electric fountain pump and made a little water fall thing and it was so cool!

it also could have been the UV from the sun it can damage exposed pond lining

This is soooooo cute! I love it, but I do have 1 question would it work better if I was to use 1 of the pre-made black plastic ponds? If I didn't want to worry about needing to replace the black plastic? Thank you for showing this and all your other great video's

Thank you :) To answer your question, you need neither preformed pond liner or wooden frame if you're building a pond on flat ground. The preformed liners would be heavier duty though and the one I have listed on my blog has a 20 year warranty: http://lovelygreens.com/2017/02/building-small-garden-pond-wildlife.html
