You should have used a spirit level to make sure the ground was level, so that your pond would be level. That's why you are left with all that black liner exposed above the water level.

Ignore the hate comments, any pool of water will attract wildlife, even a bucket in a ground. Your pond is a nice example of what anyone can do. You don't need pumps and filters to create a little microsystem like your pond great for wildlife, they suck up all the mini beasts and kill. Once a simple little pond like this in, you can then start to make the surrounds pretty as you like. Well done, nice effort :)

Thks definetely wasn't ~~too~~ good. A filter in this small of a pond is debatable. The liner tucking was a cute idea, but too much rain could lead to the dirt over it sliding into the pond. To make the pond a bit more detailed, you could've made small slopes around the pond and place rocks there. If your pond went deep enough, you could hide the liner there with rocks too. More plants and maybe some fish would top it off.

You don't need a filter in a small l pond, I never had one, just make sure there are enough oxygenating plants, and some plants for any creatures to hide in, plant round the edges and the wildlife will come.

Cool pond, thanks! Ponds don't have to be elaborate, just functionable. I made one out of a cement mixing pan about 2 feet by 3 feet once and had loads of frogs and birds bathed on the flat rock I put in it too. So yours is great! TY again for the vid.

you did a few things wrong here. You should have made it bigger so u could have a step down, and not have it so deep. The liner needs to be at least ground lvl, always cut twice, 1st to be maneuverable 2nd cut after it's all set and done. Make sure the liner is covered completely from the sun to protect it. Also make sure to have it located where it can get a minimum of 4hrs, ppl will say 5-6, but it's pretty small & shallow not for fish or a real eco system. Eventually u can slowly add rocks and cheap plants to help make it look more natural and the plant roots help clean and oxidize the pond. Also a cheap pump & filter for like $30, maybe cheaper off Craigslist wouldn't hurt either. Again if u build it right u can slowly accumulate everything else slowly, and eventually end up with a nice pond that would be = to a $5k+ contractor project. btw i learned all this in the past 50 min. of how to build ponds.... research is key my friend.

can't believe you actually thought this was a good pond. you obviously didn't do much research. a) the ground isn't level which explains the exposed liner, and b) you can't have stagnant water so you will need a pump + filter. Interesting idea to hide the liner with the tuck in the soil, but this will also lead to a lot of dirt/mud clouding the pond after rainfalls.

I'm trying to build a wildlife pond, as my bro built one in the 1980's was great seeing all the frogs, dragonfly's etc. growing up... Always remember his action man boat was floating on it for years, sometimes with a frog sat on it and newts too which me and my cousin thought was a baby crocodile, well we were only kids at the time lol,..

I done exactly the same at my house and it all cost next to nowt.
Now I've got a pond with frogs and all kinds of wildlife that we never used to get (Including midgies by the way) Grrrr.
I find that the water level goes down after a while but that's due to evaporation and tiny leaks,this is a good thing because the water is renewed and refreshed with a hose,simple!

Every honest comment on here pretty much points out all the flaws in your "pond"...before posting a video on "how to" build a pond...perhaps you should WATCH... a few my friend...other than that...your actions proved to be very thoughtful for the person you did this for...you did after all work hard and you should get credit for that...GOD BLESS YOU

You haven't built a pond, it's a hole in the ground. How can you say that building a pond is easy? You have no filter, no moving water, no UV lights, it's not a pond. It's going to be a green water swamp within days.

Shitty pond for a shitty camerman. This was a huge waste of time clicking on this video. This guys more worried about filming himself than the actual pond. Plus with no filter its just sitting water which turns into a breeding ground for mosquitos. So basically you made a swamp, not a pond

I noticed a few problems. 1. it don't look level, one end is up touching the sod, and the other end, you can still see liner and obviously water level is lower. 2. with the water level touching the sod, it will obviously escape into yard. 3. I agree with smithkaitlyn5050, you need a pump with fountain, and/or waterfall. Specially if your going to have fish in it. Fountain and waterfall will make it look nice and natural along with help aerate the water otherwise fish won't live long.

For the back part you could have pulled up the liner. Then dug out the dirt and replaced it so the edge is at water level. I just don't get why so many people are hating on this it isn't that bad.

Where to start... Well, you don't have a filter with moving water, which encourages Mosquitos to lay eggs in the water; you need gravel on the bottom, character stones, and a waterfall is the most eye catching part! And don't add fish into it because they won't be happy in such a water feature. Also their poop would foul the water very quickly. Add waaay more plants like water hyacinth or an edge.
