so the liner can go straight into the earth without reinforcements? and then you add the cement on top or is that clay?

We put a layer of yellow sand on top of the dirt, then a a fabric (A non-woven, geo-textile fabric) then the liner and then the concrete.

awesome pond. although i just simply hate the idea of building a natural looking pond and then planting plants in pots. cringeworthy.

There is no waterfall on this pond. The water returns back into the pond underwater at the opposite end of the skimmer. The owner just wanted a pond to attract birds, other wildlife and for aquatic plants.

Thank you. In the presence of water, concrete does leach some minerals and dissoved ions such as calcium into the water. Higher alkalinity and PH level is also a result in new ponds made with concrete. Typically we change the water about two to three weeks after the initial filling. Adding diluted muriatic acid to the water helps to lower the PH.
