so the liner can go straight into the earth without reinforcements? and then you add the cement on top or is that clay?

Yes the concept is very similar Jessica, yet I have not had the opportunity yet to build a natural swimming pool. : )

We put a layer of yellow sand on top of the dirt, then a a fabric (A non-woven, geo-textile fabric) then the liner and then the concrete.

awesome pond. although i just simply hate the idea of building a natural looking pond and then planting plants in pots. cringeworthy.
