If anyone is thinking about doing this mines been built for a month now and its teeming with life, attracted a lot more types of birds into the garden and i have a bumblebee nest close by in a bee nester i bought off amazon (had it 2 years with no activity until now). Never had any of these things before I put the small pond in! Very happy indeed.

That you for the reply on such an old video, really grateful for the information as I'm going to be making myself a wildlife pond in the corner of my garden as I know my garden gets a lot of passing newts. I assume they use my other big koi pond but i don't want them or their babies to get eaten so I'm making them their own little place. :)

If there are enough pond plants to oxygenate the water then that shouldn't be a problem. Best to include a mix of submerged and pond edge plants

You could build an oak barrel or mini pond in a container.

I am wondering if a pond like that can actually be crystal clear with the right filtration and waste decomposers?

I've never seen such a pond that wasn't crystal clear, only when you put turtles in them since they shite all over. also be sure that there is enough shading with acquatic and riparian plants.

Hi i put a pond in my garden its 2yrs there now it is 17ft by 17ft but i didnt slope it right like a foot in from one side and then its 2ft deep i hope the newts will use it that its not to deep and its still very open looking not enough cover on the surface any ideas how i can correct this problem or is it just a case of waiting i found a female newt in small pool beside my pond thats full of green slime n leaves so has plenty of cover sunday night just used a bit of left over pondliner only 1ft wide by 1.5ft was going to put a plant in it last year but didnt so hopefully it uses the big one im putting in more Tillaea recurva 4 together might make a kind of forest underwater.

+mimi brown it is best to collect it, either dig the hole and allow it to fill with water or use water collected in a water butt.

With such shallow water, one does not need plastic. Most soils in developed urban areas are heavy silts and clays. They just need to be well compacted.

Just had a wildlife garden created from a overgrown weedy neglected garden. Had a pond installed by Pro's. After watching your Video, they did not have a clue creating a wildlife pond. Thanks you for publishing this.

+Reybeez I'm in the process of making a large pond and instead of using plastic, I'm using clay soil and sand - Much like how they make ponds on a golf course.

It was filmed in the pond, but you are right about the glass tank, however it was the camera (not the newts) that were in the tank. The tank was placed in the pond to keep the camera dry & allow us to get underwater footage.

Was all the wildlife filmed in this pond?? Minutes 3.26 the 2nd newt comes down and seems to put its right front foot onto what I think is the side of a glass tank, and then the first newt swims upwards climbing up the glass as you can see his feet turning upwards as it applies pressure to the glass... why lie!!!

what plants have you used and i have a pond but its full of newts but for some reason frogs havent breeded there i have had he pond for 4 years now but am thinking of makeing a smaller one but in full sun as the other pond isnt in sun sun light
