I just got almost four tons of free Flat Rocks from a guy who did not want his pond anymore I went there and took them to go back and get the rest I'm doing little by little as I only have a small truck I love the ideas on the rock

Hi William, you can be successful with either approach as long as the pond is properly equipped. My strong preference is to build with rock and gravel because of the overall performance of the pond and the clean clear water.

@postie97402 I can't really give the price of this exact project, but most small ponds start at about $3500 completely installed with professional grade equipment and many of the extras like lighting, etc. Thanks for commenting and checking out the videos. =PH

@rattokala Hi and thanks for commenting. I'd highly recommend lining your pond. Even hard packed surfaces will still allow for the leaking of water. A liner will keep your water IN the pond!!

You always do edge treatment after water is running not before running it..

@superwhiz88 Hello Whiz, we use both cement or glue to secure the rockwork but only when necessary.

@3DGAR775 Hi thanks for the comment. This pond is a few years old now and has had fish the entire time. In my area of the US you need 24+ inches of depth to winter your fish. These fish do fine. This pond has lost a couple of fish from a heron hunting it though. During winter months the pond is aerated via the waterfall.

@thePondHunter There are twisted people in this world, but my house is wired, outdoor cameras, sensors, and the pond pump will have a Low Jack chip (external of course) LOL!

@Arteolike Sounds like the pondless would be the best bet if that is the case, better safe than sorry. Unfortunately I have see a few ponds in my time get vandalized and it is always where the public has access to the water feature.

@Arteolike I like both, however when you are doing an install with "curb appeal" I lean more towards pondless installations. I am not always comfortable with the fish being exposed to the public it can sometimes tempt people to mess with the pond a bit, sometimes it is good intentioned, sometimes not... it's the nots that worry me. Let people see your work but for the fish you should be with them, you can educate them too and keep the hobby going!!!

Alright... So i am planning to install some kind of water feature out front after i am done wit the one i have in the back yard. But i an not sure if i should get a pond-less or with a pond?? I would love people to be greeted by fish, but then again a pondless looks so interesting? What do you think is best?
