Unless the bottom of a pond is painted in a certain color (which isn't the case in this video) water always gets its color from the reflection of the sky. It does look very nice, but I'm guessing it's a lot less blue on cloudy days. :)

Ive had nothing but problems with mine I did a similar design. whenever the waterfall is on the second pond liner gets water under it and floats. I got a bunch of rock on it now and it still does it. once I shut the fall off it goes back down. Very frustrating I just want it done so I can enjoy it. yours looks very nice though.

@safetydave Beautiful concept, poor execution. Mulch will wash into pond; also, liner is exposed; recommend a rock shelf.

Awesome pond.A bit of advice though,use waterfall foam in the gaps between the rock in your waterfall to keep the water running over the rocks instead of in between and under them.

When you start your build if theres a question or anything you have just drop me a line and i'll do my best to help you out, when I built my first one, I constantly had green water and for the last few years the water stays crystal clear, on both the outdoor one, and my indoor pond.

What a beautiful design! It is great inspiration for me since I am going to build one this spring. I also love the music you chose; the Chinese Guzheng is one of my favorite musical instruments to play and to hear. Good job taking all those pictures while it was being built too, I always forget to take pictures of my projects. I really like the shape you chose as well, Thank you for sharing!

@madmiask Thank you, hopefully soon with the warmer weather i'll get it cleaned out and running again right now I think every toad in the area is using it as a breeding pool, toads everywhere !

Thank you , this last summer I added more tall grasses and perimeter plants looks a whole lot better, right now my koi are hanging out in my indoor pond i built last year ( yet to get video of it) but winter is hopefully on the way out and I am ready to get back out and fire up the outdoor pond. Thanks again

Thank you, this was the second one I built, the first was the Butterfly Gardens at my old house, if you havent seen it yet, check out the water garden update, is video I shot this summer with a bigger pump on the waterfall and more plants ect, sadly the pump didnt make it thru the summer and i'll be looking for a replacement soon, also i'll be posting some video soon of the indoor pond I just built.

I use a Organic Pond Colorant from "UltraClear" this one in perticular is in liquid form, 5 teaspoons in my water and I achieve that blue color. The blueing also helps keep down the algae. There are other bluing products in tablet and liquid form that you can purchase from retailers such as Ace Hardware or Walmart. The bluing is safe for plants and fish also. One word of caution, if you get it on your skin or clothing it does not wash off easily.

Thats a hard one to answer, I've heard of people putting small turtles in their ponds, and others will say no way. One thing ive been told is turtles like to dig and may puncture the liner, but seeing Ive never really messed with turtles I cant really say.

The "UV" is a ultraviolet sterilizer, its hooked inline with a pump and has special lights inside that kills bacteria as its pumped through it. It helps keep the water clear. This summer I didnt use one at all, the products I use from "SAB" have done a awesome job of keepking my water crystal clear.

I started it last august, and had it up and running the same month an 75% rocked in. This summer I finished rocking in the backside of the waterfall in and added a bigger pump, and plants, both in and out of the pond, the water lettuce's really suprised me, I bought 12 to start with and they just kept multiplying. The basic kit was 150 and with all the other pumps and stuff, Im guessing around a grand total,but that included buying pumps and stuff I had on my first pond at my old place.

I had to purchase extra pond liner to cover the waterfall, the waterfall itself I built from the dirt I dug out for the ponds, the waterfall in the video is being run with the stock pump that came in the kit, I had it powering the sprayer, the bio-filter and the waterfall. Soon I am adding a bigger pump just to run the waterfall. As for "UV" I used one periodically, but I started using the SAB Etreme pond products and between the two I use it keeps my water super clear.
