Giant isopods are saltwater creatures and usually live deep in the ocean. Unless someone put it there or something like a hurricane washed it into the pond, they did not really find it there. I am curious where these guys really got it though. I'm guessing they know some fishermen who work on a trawler since they got two. On another video, someone suggested Hooters was getting them with their crab shipments and dumping them there.

I have nothing against killing an animal to eat it and I don't think giant isopods are rare(they just live at such depths that they aren't commonly seen). I do find it sick how disrespectful they are to this poor creature as it slowly dies though. Can't believe the people in the comments either who think it is so funny parading a dying creature around. Also a lot of ignorant people thinking all isopod species are the same and can all live in the same environments.

Had to stop watching once I saw the poor thing at the restaurant. Your reaction to finding an interesting creature shouldn't be to remove it from its habitat and play with it. If you were to find an endangered or threatened animal, you could face legal repercussions for having this on video. Don't toy with an animal if you don't know anything about it. Not to mention, if you handle an animal you don't know anything about, you could be handling a venomous animal that's potentially dangerous to you. Admire strange wildlife at a safe distance.

This species is called an isopod.
Well, seintificly proven that they are the kind of animals that roam around cold water. Also, there habitat is in the Pacific ocean, off Japan in the south China sea.
So... you live there or live near a cold water habitat, or someone from there came to your habitat and put them near cool water to breed. You also said most of them are dead, the person that might have put it there probably put them in the wrong habitat and don't know how to live there because it's not there natural habitat! Aidan, Isopods can live on land, as in pillbugs can live on land under specific circumstances where there's enough moisture to breathe, because they breathe through gills and have spent millions of years evolving to live on land. Giant Isopods can NOT live on land and will asphyxiate if kept out of the water for too long. They are a deep sea genus and are so unfit for land that simply being at the surface in average lighting is enough to damage their eyes. This animal was suffocating and being blinded at the same time and everyone's laughing at it because they don't know what cruelty they've put this animal through. Just because it doesn't look like a cute little mammal doesn't mean it's okay to put it through this, the thing was nearly dead by the end of the video, as could be seen by it's slow movements and low resistance to being shaken. It looked like one of those wooden snake toys, not like a healthy, living Isopod.

As others said it is a saltwater creature. I know some aquariums keep them so I don't know if deep sea pressure is required. They don't live in freshwater, so probably they faked finding it there, someone put it there, or a hurricane, etc caused it to be there.

I think the reason that your finding smaller ones in fish mouths is because I think they eat their tongue and then acts like their new tongue. And then eat part of what they it and then when they get big they just swim out of the fish mouth and just carry on with its life. I'm not totally sure about this theory, I read it somewhere with a picture of what the alien is.
