Get rigged up for night casting walleye if you live near major river going into great lakes. Flicker shad or husky jerks, fished at snails pace from sunset-12am. Fall and spring are the times to fill the freezer in MI. Spring is jighead/plastic bite during day.

Actually in lake Michigan the natural reproduction of chinook are incredibly low, almost no chinook smolts are ever sampled in the rivers and the vast vast majority of kings that are caught are stocked.

+Milo Hines This matters on the river honestly. If it gets 80+ degrees, i'd agree with you. They do have a LOT of natural survival here in northern MI. Spring floods often push fry into the big lakes before warm up of rivers.

I live in oregon and here there a ton of hatchery fish, on my favorite river you can only keep the hatchery ones. A lot of them reproduce naturally but the hatcheries do quite a bit as well
