That tank isnt correct for a betta. A betta needs a 2.5 gallon just for 1 betta. The gravel should of been washed before adding. Even though you have cycled water, bettas need certain chemicals added into their water.

Bettas arent "sea animals" they are freshwater. Not all female bettas have short fins and not all males have long fins. If you kept your fish in a 2 gallon or smaller, of course it died, that's improper conditions for a betta fish.
