Sorry about the maths lesson but just bear with me. If you have a 120 gallon tank you could, if you follow the rule have 120 1 inch fish, 120 neon tetras for example. That would be fine, they would probably do well but what if you picked fish that were 2 inches long - the rule says that you could have 60 of them, so 60 swordtails, yes, probably fine.
What are you other options based on the rule - numerous. You could have 30 4 inch fish or perhaps 15 fish that were 8 inches long. If you want to take it to the enth degree you could have 4 fish that were 30 inches long, that also gives you a total of 120 inches of fish. You try putting 4 koi carp each 30 inches long in a tank containing 120 gallons. They would be dead in a matter of hours at best.
The rule only applies to very small fish of about an inch. A 2 inch fish is not twice as big as a 1 inch fish; it is twice as long but also twice as wide and twice as deep so a 2 inch fish is actually 8 times the size of a 1 inch fish. A 3 inch fish is 3 times the length of a 1 inch fish but also 3 times the width and 3 times the depth; it's actually 27 times as big.
Now look at your 30 inch Koi Carp compared with your Neon Tetra. It's 30 times as long but also 30 times as wide and 30 times as deep. It is not 30 times as big, it is actually 27,000 times as big (30 x 30 x 30) or to put it another way you would need 30,000 Neon Tetras to have the same bioload as your one 30 inch Koi Carp. Try putting 20 Oscars at 6 inches into 120 gallons, that fits the rule as well. Let me know how that works out.
Need way more structure for the fish to behave as they would in wild. Just bring back rocks/ driftwood from where you catch them. Don't have to worry about crazy bacteria on structure if your doing wild caught native fish.
The smaller/ younger the fish the better they adapt to tank life. Fingerling & juveniles adjust & learn to coexist in tanks much better than mature fish.
Try some aquatic plants - that will help balance & filter water, & make fish more natural acting. Planted tanks are more complicated, so just plant some aquatic plants in small clay pots in your tank... don't have to worry about substrate.
I've got about 50 juvenile bluegill, green suns, & pumpkinseeds. Even young are very territorial & aggressive. caught them little over yr ago... only lost 3 thus far. Good luck.

Also I would suggest keeping the curtens closed durning the day as it will create algae waywayway faster having natural light on ur tank
Since you have posted your intention to catch and keep fish please check ( unofficially of course ) with the Illinois department of Natural Resources on the legal aspects of keeping game fish.
