This Is What Happens When You Feed RAW Fish To Puppies!!!

Footage of my 10 week Lycan Shepherd Ulu and 10 week Renascence Bulldogge Ogryn eating a raw whole fish (Tilapia). *To answer a question I know I will get in the comments: Yes, it's OK to feed your dogs 'RAW' bones. It's only cooked bone you should never feed your dogs - including those large Smoke Bones they sell at pet stores. Cooking the bone makes it undigested, brittle and prone to causing obstruction of the g-track and a perforated bowel. Canines are meant to digest raw bones and have been doing it for millions of years. Don't take my word for it though, I'm just some guy on YouTube... lol. Do your research. I'll provide some links down below if you'd like to do that. Did they get the bone with it or some other form of calcium? If they eat meat with no bone is screws up their phosphorus to calcium ration and that causes loose stools.

Fish is safe as long as it is fed RAW. COOK bones are very dangerous as the become hard and brittle. RAW fish bones are soft and pliant. :-)

Do you freeze all meat? Chicken and beef etc. before feeding it to your dog and for how long for chicken/beef? I am thinking of giving my Czech shepherd puppy some chicken feet and making some broth for my older German shepherd and was wondering if I should freeze the chicken feet to kill the bacteria and what not and was wondering how long I should freeze it for? Thank you!
1st508th Airborne
1st508th Airborne - 7 years ago
Freezing doesn't kill bacteria, it kills any potential parasites. RAW meat bacteria doesn't effect dogs. Chicken and beef fed RAW should be frozen 3 days.

1st508th Airborne
1st508th Airborne - 7 years ago
You don't have to feed it frozen, though you should freeze fish a total of 3 days before feeding it to them to keep them from being exposed to any potential parasites in the RAW fish (7 days for salmon and trout). After that you can give it too them thawed or frozen. Looking at your avatar I assume you have bull breeds. They have a tendency to gulp down food without chewing it well enough. If you run into that issue with yours giving it frozen to them will help slow them down and force them to chew it up more :-)
LovableHero AJ

Cant you thaw out the fish for your dogs? I understand that fish sicle slows 'em down lol,.. But could you?
1st508th Airborne
1st508th Airborne - 7 years ago
Oh yes, you can feed it frozen or thawed. They get their food both ways. Another reason I like to feed fish frozen is it's much cleaner and keeps the dogs from getting a fishy small because they aren't getting fish oil all over them. :-)

1st508th Airborne
1st508th Airborne - 7 years ago
Thanks Vanessa for watching. No, frozen food doesn't hurt her teeth. In fact, as a teething puppy I speculate that just like a teething ring you keep in the fridge or freezer for a teething baby to gnaw on that the frozen food feels good on hers. Wild canines in the wild during the winter scavenge and feed on frozen carcasses all the time. :-)

I have a 7 week am bully, with his kibbles i mix up chicken, tuna....etc. basically we cook the food for him (all boneless btw) and mix it up with his kibbles. Anyways now i an very interested in switching up to a full raw diet, bones and everything, but i am uncertain my puppy would like it. How would u suggest i go about it??

Btw beautiful dogs man, the breed, the setting of ur walks just fits together. Also, as a viewer i can tell how much u care for your best friends.

Kidney failure or complications is one of the leading reasons why dogs die prematurely and my belief is that its related to their diet and once i'm old enough i'm gonna be researching it, (i'm only 15) i'm planning to become a veterinarian and along side research dog diets and "pet" dog diets are and make my own dog diet and recommend it to dog owners. I believe it will be something huge and it will save many dogs from kidney complications in the future. I first got inspired from a documentary that showed how a particular brand of treats after consumed by dogs lead them to death and from kidney complications and spoke to some people who lost their dogs because they fed them that treat, i later searched online and one of the leading causes of death and or illness in dogs now days is related kidney complications. your videos have also inspired me further, feel free to give me your opinion on the subject i am very open minded and willing to learn more.
Thanks
EDIT: I also forgot to mention bloating, it's also related to their diet and it's pretty common in all dogs, it usually occurs when the food that dogs eat are to easy to digest and their stomach muscles and organs become weak and it's also causes diarrhea and blood in their faeces.

I'm not so sure about giving domesticated dogs raw flesh as a main diet because what I have come to see is that more often than not those that eat raw flesh tends to be more aggressive and wilder in nature, they are harder to control and to me that nullified the whole point of being domesticated. I know that originally they were eating raw flesh and were evolved for that but if we took evolution and domestication into play we also need to take into account that modern days dogs are well evolved into eating processed food be it from industry or homemade cooking.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm not so sure behind the idea of raw flesh as a main diet for a domesticated dogs unless its breed for a certain task like hunting or we want to be more intact with primitive nature.

I'm not posting just to belittle your ideology, I'm just sharing my experience to you and if you want to get defensive like for no reason other than assuming me to be a reluctant ignorant bastard then you win I won't leave any opinion again.

1st508th Airborne - 7 years ago
I don't care if you are sure about as you are not a expert. I have fed this way over 20yrs, I'm a Animal Warden and the diet was created by a vet. Do some research instead of posting your assumptions on a diet they are biologically designed to eat. I provided many resources for that in the comments from several vets.

Love it. Too bad dog food companies have brainwashed the majority of dog owners around the globe into believing that avocados, apples and other fillers in kibble is good for dogs. Even the majority of veterinarians will say that raw diet is dangerous for dogs and then try to sell you an expensive science diet.

Excuse me i hope you answer this when you get the chance, i was wondering if any
store bought meat or fish is relatively ok as long as you freeze and everything to feed them or should it be certain kind like from an organic store etc? (which we don't have for that stuff as far as i know.) Would love to start getting my Husker on a more natural and balanced diet, i tried the cucumber and he loved it. Immediate results, not sure how to describe it just that his spirits just lifted and seemed to do better, it also took him more time to work into it so he was not inhaling and choking on his food like he does (his owner (me) does that too...apple doesn't fall far from tree. I myself know the results of eating more natural compared to process shit it's not all in the head and it's not unsafe if you do it safely it's good for you and process and cooking etc may or may not kill parasites but it for sure kills most of the key nutrients vitamins proteins etc. When eating processed foods its like that all it is, eating and going nowhere just for the sake of taste and feeling full. But never actually used. where as natural from the earth just feels good it wouldn't be any different for a dog they are more like us than many choose to believe. Cunning too.
(like you said in previous video, that dry little pebbles goes right through them.. )
What would you think that would be the best diet? And how should we go about feeding the husky. Im currently a prisoner to what the family gets (still in school/ged/college etc) so wouldn't be able to handle a job) - which is diamond something. They think it's the best stuff ever but i personally think it looks worse than some cheaper stuff and have always been sketchy of it.. and hearing what you had to say makes me believe my gut was correct, and it shouldn't be trusted. It's also dryer than normal (what i was used to seeing) which concerned me. Dry food tends to dry you out and burns right up, and causes bowel problems. At least from what i have known anyways.. there's nothing there to hold it. Should i keep giving some of the diamond feed /kibble along with side treats like fish etc. or do you reccomend cutting it completely. Thanks sorry for the long post have a nice day!

Meat bought at the supermarket is fine. You can start adding in some raw meaty bones to his kibble when you can. Even a little fed sometimes is better then feeding none. JMO.

What did you give them when they were like a few days or just a week or 2 old?
1st508th Airborne
1st508th Airborne - 7 years ago
I don't introduce puppies to food until they are in their 4th week. I start out feeding them raw ground beef and ground chicken. Once their puppy teeth have come in more around 5-7 weeks old I introduce pieces with bones. I have videos documenting this over the last few months if you are interested. :-)

How much more expensive or inexpensive is it to feed a raw diet compared to a higher grade commercial food?

None if you buy in bulk. There ios a link to a video in the video description above that addresses this very topic. Check it out. :-)

As long as the fish is raw and not cooked the bones aren't a problem. :-)

Do you have a 'feeding schedule' video? I'm very interested in feeding my Doberghan(Doberman/Afghan hound) rescue raw, but even after extensive research I'm still not 100% confident in myself to not give her what she needs. Thank you!
1st508th Airborne
1st508th Airborne - 7 years ago
I typically feed them a morning meal and a evening meal. If you aren't confident in going 100% raw feed your dogs kibble and augment that with some raw food daily. Give the a couple chicken wings or drumsticks or a leg quarter with their daily kibble. a few days a week. I know people who feed that way.

1st508th Airborne Thanks! I've always hated feeding dogs commercial food. I've always said if my dog can't eat it I probably shouldn't eat it either. Love what you're doing, man please keep it up!

I feed them by their weight. They grow pretty fast at this age. I'll provide you with a link to a page the has charts for raw food amounts by weight. It's a good online resource if you are looking to get started feeding your dog a raw diet...

Chadd mate ,I subbed but I don't get your videos in my notifications. YT strikes again I guess. Talking about slowing dogs down when eating raw .I noticed that using slippery elm has made the food much stiffer due to its nature. I think Zed is a bit vexed about that as she can't inhale it. I think I found out what has been upsetting her tummy.I started using Natures Menu fruit and veg cubes about a week back. I'm not giving that anymore and will stick to giving the fresh veg and fruit I normally use. My fault as it didn't see it said adult on the packet . Bad eye sight lol . Great video as always mate. Have a great weekend.

One of the reasons I like to feed fish frozen is it keeps them from smelling like fish. Because its frozen they aren't getting fish oils and guts all over their paws and the ground. The smell difference is quite a bit compared to raw. My dogs don't smell fishy. The Lycan Shepherd is a new breed I and several others helping me are developing using wolf hybrids, working line GSD, Blue Bay Shepherd, Husky, Malamute and Norwegian Elk Hound, It's intended to be a working dog with a wolf like appearance and high intelligence. I spent the last 25+ years creating the Renascence Bulldogge, a breed of working bulldog. The Lycan Shepherd is my new breed project. :-)

neat. got to try it. Do you have to hose down your patio every time after they are done or do you leave the fishy smell to go away on its on? Have any of your dogs ever had a stray sharp fish bone or spine get stuck in their mouth? When you first started touching your pups to condition them against developing food aggression, what would you do if they actually started growling at you? Thank you for offering your knowledge and experience. :)

I love your videos, and thanks for the information. You are right about freezing fish for at least 7 days. This is for a whole fish I take it? I just bought some salmon fillets for my dogs, and I will freeze them for 7 days. I just hope that's enough to kill all the parasites in the meat.

But, do fish fillets have parasites in them tho? Better be safe than sorry I would think :)
