Just some information thats handy for 1st time (Salcata) tortoise owners. Salcata tortoises live 70+ years they get as big as 100+ pounds.They should eat mostly grasses/hay grass, and dark leafy greens as babies. Which is cheap if you grow it yourself. Torisoes need their food sprinkled with calcium powder twice a week. They need a basking temp ranging from 85-95 during the day and at night a drop to 70 degrees Fahrenheit is okay. They like to burrow so you should think about putting sand in the cage, it's what they live on naturally. They need to be soaked every other day if water isn't provided in the tank for water consumption. But only put water up to their chin. You also need a UBV bulb especially baby's it helps their shell grow keeps them healthy and strong. UVB basically mimics the sun and gives them nourishment just like the sun does. If you keep a male and female salcata together there are chances they will fight if not given enough space and proper care.(still with proper care they can fight) EACH adult salcata needs 100sq ft of space. Remember that when getting a buddy. They do well by themselves if kept in a cage that has decor to keep there mind busy. They get attached to their owners as well, so you could be their friend. DO NOT MIX TWO DIFFERENT SPECIES OF TORISOES together in the same cage. More than likely the other torisoe species you choose will need a total different lighting and heating temp and humidity than your salcata. please don't ever leave your torisoes outside with no fencing to protect the torisoes from predators like cats, and birds. please people think before getting torisoes they need so much care and cost a lot of money to properly take care of them. They may only be $40 but the cost too intentionally take care of them is well over $300 so be mindful. Not to mention Sulcata torisoes outlive their owners and it's pretty common for it to happen so have a back up plan for it to go too. A shelter is not a back up plan. If you need anymore information on your tortoise I recommend a site called "tortoise trust" Good luck with your new buddy. Please get him some UVB lights and check your heating temps to make sure it's good enough.

Sulcata tortoise it’s not a turtle and it should not be in a glass enclosure if they can see threw it they will try to get trough it. And you should also get mazuri tortoise diet for the tortoise it’s healthier for them. I have two myself in a zoomed tortoise house. If you want to know more about Sulcata tortoises I suggest to watch kamp kenan on YouTube he has alote of useful videos.

Cool. HEY PAL Listen if ht tortoise dies thats it! when their adult they are worthed thousands you have to get 2. I have 2 and one is 1yr old and the other one is almost 4yrs. They live up to 150yrs. Feed them variety of foods like cactus, bell pepers, lettuce, leaves, and more... always give them water and soak them every 2 times in a week. They are the 3rd largest tortoise and you should take care of it more than a dog/it is more valuable. It needs to live live in a 20 gallon tank then a enclosure, thenwhen the new raww tortoise is big enough it can roam around your yard.
