Thanks for responding I bought a hang on protein Skimmer rated for 65 gallons would that be enough filtration because I don't really have the money or room for a sump
Royce McGarry
Royce McGarry - 11 years ago
A sump is the best option for any saltwater tank in general... you can place the protein skimmer inside the sump!

what are the types and GPH of the power heads you have. I have a 425GPH powerhead in my 20 gallon tall tank and I think it's overkill. But am I wrong?

I'm guessing he spent 500$. I got everything at a discount, tank 29 gal, skimmer, 2 lbs live rock, 15 lb live sand (just enough to cover bottom), filter bio wheel, light and a stand for 350$ but I still need more rock and fish and power head

hey im just starting off my 29 gallon reef tank. all i have right now is live rock and a clown fish. what kind of lighting are you using? and what corals do you recomend?

It's amazing how people fight and bitch on youtube, its quite comical to read the comments. Just take care of the tangs, people act like the fish is going to jump out of the tank and slap you for being an asshole. As long as they are well kept they will live as long as any other fish. If a newly born Regal tang is put into a 29 gallon Biocube for example over time it will adapt to its environment and become dwarfed, thus making its size stunted.

for the amount of times I have commented on this video, I never noticed he had three clowns. Impressive.

@siglover321 yet you still refer to it as a dory. I'm done talking to someone who thinks they know their stuff.
Sharpie's Reef
Sharpie's Reef - 14 years ago
@siglover321 now that we have established that indeed I was correct earlier, and you have more money then brains, HOW in god's name did you not know the name of a hippo tang. How much did you pay for your Gem tang, and how have you been keeping fish for more then 5 years when you type like you are twelve? I have yet to meat a 7 year old reefer.
Sharpie's Reef
Sharpie's Reef - 14 years ago
@siglover321 So you are agreeing with me then? You can't meet a tang's needs in a tank smaller then a 75, as even a juvenile is HIGHLY susceptible to disease and infection that can easily be avoided. Don't bother kidding yourself, anyone who has even done a substantial amount of research will know exactly what common tangs are, I don't expect you to know what a gem tang, or even a powder blue is.
Sharpie's Reef
Sharpie's Reef - 14 years ago
@siglover321 I highly doubt you kept any saltwater tank, you would know what a blue, hippo, or regal tang were. Second, a juvenile tang is so susceptible to disease that most even in large systems don't last. I won't "chill" because housing an animal improperly is just wrong, know your limits and stick within them.

Great tank. I didn't see an answer to the 'light' question. What is your lighting source (type and total wattage)? Thanks Post an update when you can, please.
Sharpie's Reef
Sharpie's Reef - 14 years ago
@Atheisthateme maybe not a yellow but I have first hand seen a blue hippo tang at 12 inches many in the 6-10" range. I never said all of those fish would get to 12" but a BHTang certainly will, yellow, purple, etc. are all shorter surgeonfish. also, taking info from Petcos (a penny pinching company) attempt at scamming customers is just plain stupid. face the facts, keeping a tang in a 29 is careless, and cruel.
Sharpie's Reef
Sharpie's Reef - 14 years ago
@Atheisthateme I don't know what food your buying but my formula 1 pellets say feed as needed, and so does the frozen. All other food is made and dosed by myself. Where did you pull that factoid about a betta from? I'm sure pulling things out of your ass works sometimes, but in the Marine hobby it's simply not the case. google: Minimum blue tang tank. also any fish that can get to a foot in length is not suitable for a 15 let alone a 29.

Sharpie's Reef - 14 years ago
@Atheisthateme then your father is a very stupid man, tangs are notorious for getting ill and the inevitable parameter swings of a 15G nano should have killed it. Aside from the fact that tangs like to dart and need adequate room to swim (no less then 4') I'm sure you have pissed off fish. Read any literature abotu properly housing tangs or maroon clowns and you will see the recommended minimum tank sizes. KTHXBAI
Sharpie's Reef
Sharpie's Reef - 14 years ago
@Atheisthateme having a hippo yellow and a maroon in a 29. no tang should be in anything under 75 and maroons are pushing it. Do your research before you kill fish.

@Atheisthateme never do this to your fish people.

they're very easy to maintain. If they are dying, usually predators get to them. even some reef safe inverts sometimes go after them. if you think is a lack of nutrient, try marine snow.

Very nice! How long have you had your feather duster? I have not been able to keep them alive for longer then a few months. They are very difficult to feed.
