This tank looks a good attempt to reef . You should get a protein skimmer and heater where those fish are. Than maybe getta another aquarium on top . Looks fun.

Put an air stone in there, the eggs need ample oxygen or they will become fungal infected. Also flow.

No, they just generally die off. I've tried over feeding, etc., but they won't stick around. :( I'm thinking light. I don't have a spectrum specifically for algae.

Not going to lie, some of my parameters were off for the recent month (Mg and Alkalinity). But my salinity has never been below 1.024. I've been dosing to bring up the off parameters, so we'll see if they come back for me.

+j03yYunG Aquariums breaks my heart when a coral strops. I have a goni huffing at the moment after 6 months of thriving. I think my salinity was low so I did a big change tonight. I don't trust refractometers at allll

Yeah, I haven't had success with torches in either of my reefs. This one has been like this for the past 6 months.

Sounds like the aquarium hasn't had long enough to cycle or mature for the eggs maybe. And or the oxygen level is too low for the fry.

How can you dose Mg and alk and don't test for months? You should test calcium too. Your tank is nice and clean! Good job! Nice clowns.
j03yYunG Aquariums
j03yYunG Aquariums - 8 years ago
I only dose once a week on the Mg / ALK which barely keeps the parameters where they're at. I should be dosing more. CA hasn't been an issue with me in the past, but I did check it, 490.
Tim Fitzsimons
Tim Fitzsimons - 8 years ago
Natural sea water has pretty high iron levels which red plants tend to use a lot, you might want to give iron dosing a try.
j03yYunG Aquariums
j03yYunG Aquariums - 8 years ago
You're correct on the iron for red plants. :)
Tim Fitzsimons
Tim Fitzsimons - 8 years ago
I kinda figured with how nice the aquarium looked in the video but, I know that tends to be the limiting factor when it comes to red plants in both fresh and salt water so why not mention it right? Regardless you've got a beautiful tank and I wish you the best of luck with its continuation.
j03yYunG Aquariums

Thanks Tim for the input. I've been dosing iron in the tank, maybe I'll up it a bit.

i bet the ph swing when lights are off affect eggs maby look into a refugium so u can keep ph somewhat in line check ph b4 & a hr or2 after lights go off bet it way off & i also run a air line from outside that helps ur ph also . idk anything about breeding but i think it will help. PS tank is awsome i am going to plant 1 of my refugium's some day im glad i seen this video. thanks & good luck bro

tanks look awesome. if your clown fry are dying quickly after hatching they are starving before they figure out how to hunt rotifers raise your temp a degree to shorten there incubation time leaves them with more of a yolk sac to feed off of.

+Ruben hahaha yeah, that's why I wrote my comment hahahah. I think white light looks much more natural and better because of that, but that's just me, some people like deeper blues to make the corals pop more.

Ruben
Ruben - 8 years ago
+Franklin Michael what type of light he was using like I use 67k and 65k at different time and which one I have. I have different fixtures I have one with 4 bulb 67k and the leds I'm using now.
Franklin Michael
Franklin Michael - 8 years ago
+Ruben But did you mean to ask what the kalvin temp of the light was or the temp of the water?
Ruben
Ruben - 8 years ago
+Franklin Michael I ment that the color's of the plant. The plants look nice and healthy. About the light I ment what type of light he was using. Thanks commenting.
Franklin Michael
Franklin Michael - 8 years ago
I think he meant the light color not the temperature of the water, most people have lights on their tanks that are way too blue because they think it looks cool, I personally prefer a more natural light color.
