I swear, I recently purchased. 3 Mexican hermit crabs (sometimes called red tip ) they are amazing, they are so active and. Eat all types algae. I would say each Mexican is easily more proactive than 5 blue or red hermits.

I have been searching for someone who has the same brown Algae as me for months. The algae you had in you system is identical to mine and I can not get rid of it. What finally did the trick for you? I just added a phosphate reactor running gfo last week. Did the phosphate reactor resolve your issue? If so how long did it take because you saw the algae start to diminish? I noticed since my rocks are starting to look better but the sandbed is still a mess. I probably just have to wait but this stuff has been around for 5 months now and I am ready for it to be gone!

In my opinion, and if your tank is only 6 months old, you added fish too fast. It looks like you have a large bioload in there. Also, are you running GFO? If not, I would recommend doing so. How often do you do water changes?

Have a look at Dr. Tim's "Re Fresh." Excellent for cyano and nuisance algaes! Guarantee you won't be disappointed.

as young as your tank is the spikes are to be expected. hold off on the anenomes until your numbers stabilize.. they tend to release toxin when left dying in the tank

yeah the tank is well stocked and the lights are on about 8 hours a day. Got around 10 hermits in there also. The nitrates do seem to be holding at 0.5 ppm now and i think the algae is slowly getting better. Fingers crossed! do you think i should get some more hermits? maybe some nassarus snails?
KmaNsReef

This happens to the best of us, but hopefully you've already seen the worst of it and the tank is now recovering. Be glad this isn't a nano tank like mine when it nuked the whole system and the water was white like milk a few years ago.

Nice to see an update from you mate.... Sorry it is under these circumstances..... I will suggest a powerful cleanup crew and weekly change out of phosphate media until you get it under control..... Gud luck and keep us posted

And if u can find the anemone that's rotting away take it out quick. Those thing can wipe a whole tank in no time. And your tank is amazing it will be heart breaking to c that happen. T

Yeh the advice above sounds about right. Cut back on lighting and increase water changes to more regular. Ps hermit crabs and turbo snails worked wonders for me the just went to town in the hair algae. Good luck. T

Do you have a clean up crewin the tank and if you do how are they doing? I do think you have to many fish in your tank, also how many hours are your lights on for? I hope you get this under control. thumbs up for asking for help.
