Sweet tank. Whats the latest? Is tank still running? Great job
Robert Diaz- 7 years ago
what kind of filtration are you using ? i just bought the same tank and I refuse to use a sump for personal reasons what's your gph on your filtration and what kind ?
Gunnar Jones- 8 years ago
You need a 2 part or a Kalkwasser drip. You would get rid of all that unsightly white rock and make it purple within 2 -3 mos.

Best aquarium quote ever "This is not a hobby its a passion" great looking tank.

I would suggest putting a check valve on your water return. I'm assuming that you have a sump bellow the tank and if so then if the power goes out or the return pump fails then the water could back flow into the sump flooding it. Overall though the tank looks really nice!
markablevideos- 8 years ago
+Cw Pm Thanks for your tip. I don't actually need one as my sump is large enough to hold all the water that would backflow down into the sump. I also prefer to keep the design as simple as possible with no extra pieces, like the check valve, that may clog and so would be something else to maintain. That's a good tip, though, if the sump is not large enough for the backflow.

Great channel, thanks for the DIY. Still doing a lot of research before I switch my 8 gal over. Picked up a 20 long for display and 10 for the sump but didn't expect a friend to give me a 55. Depending what I do I may be using the 20 for the sump instead. I guess I'll see this weekend when I go pick up the other tank.

hey man roughly what was the total build cost for your tank
john smitty- 8 years ago
+markablevideos alright thx thats around what i thought, 2 grand start up is possible for me, then i will just buy the coral and fish as i get paid and add them to the tank over time, thanks
markablevideos- 8 years ago
About $2k, without fish/corals. Items that cost the most: Neptune Apex Controller $500, Kessil A360WE LED Light $400, Vortech MP10W Powerhead $285.
