As a newbie in the hobby, THANK YOU. I've been swamped with having to do huge daily WC's to keep phosphates down after buying too many live rocks.

Thanks for giving me an idea of what it takes to maintain a tank. My tank setup is still a couple of months away, I need to finish the basement before I get to build my system. You help fill my needs...lol.

How thick is your glass?
Jeremy B
Jeremy B - 8 years ago
I spoke with they guy I bought it from tonight...the tank was made in 2013...the stand is just old. He said he had it custom made and it was made that way. Guess only time will tell.
FishOfHex
FishOfHex - 8 years ago
O ok well if its been running and hasnt had any issues you should be fine. Stuff like that with how old is make me nervous id hate to see all that water hit the floor over something that could be avoided.
Jeremy B
Jeremy B - 8 years ago
O no, I'v had it in water for 8 months now...the glass is pretty thick and you can clearly see the silicone in between the glass to seal it...its just not anywhere on the edges if that makes sense. Basically all the stuff your not suppose to scrape of is scraped off. I just texted the guy who I bought it from and ask him if it was built like that or if he did it. He used the tank for years if it was like that...which I'm assuming it was. Just seemed odd to me, another fish buddy of mine who's been doing it for 30 years said he was made that way and they didn't decide to spread out the silicone with there finger so it sealed like you usually see...its a eurobrace tank...

FishOfHex - 8 years ago
Do you already have water in it? If its glass and you dont see any silicone and the tanks is that old.. Scary and id personally stay away from it. If you do decide to keep it id fill it up outside and see if it holds water for a month or so but even that its not guaranteed.

Okay..I bought mine used from a guy...I'm assuming its a custom tank. Its 36*24*24 and its half in...I think or more, cant remember, at work right now. But it doesn't have any silicone on the sides of the edges...I looks like it was almost made that way? Or the guy before me just scrapped it all off perfectly...any thoughts on that. He was an experienced reefer and I never had a chance to ask him if he did that or if it was made like that. Its a pretty old tank I think...probably from the late 90s maybe.

I'm with you on keeping the back glass clean. I think it makes a world of difference in the overall beauty of the tank. It's expensive but the Tunze Care Magnet long 0220.015 might be something you may want to try. I have one and boy it is nice.

My clown took ten years to die. I'm was so happy to see him go.

FishOfHex
FishOfHex - 8 years ago
+dazzla2010 You should post a video of it, I love checking out other peoples tanks especially those who do things different and have success.

i do water change once a month max i run rowa and i carbon dose and I've n get next to nothing on the glass buy the way you tank
looks great
FishOfHex
FishOfHex - 8 years ago
+dazzla2010 Its really not that much, its the same as if you forgot to clean your front glass for two weeks. I run a LNS via biopellets, wet skimming and low feeding. The angle makes it look worse, also regardless if you do a water change weekly, bi weekly or daily you will get algae on the glass. Just how it is.

it would be realy a nice video, if U just try to adjust the white balance - to the warm... This kind of adjusting got even my old mobile phone camera? what I mean - U`ve just to find it on Your cam... Plus - when U`re filming - try to make the reef tank light maximum on white color... Then Try Again, U `ll be surprised. But i`ts only abouy a vid. Your reef is realy nice.
anton korablyow
anton korablyow - 8 years ago
hm... oh If that`s realy so - that`s a pity... But maybe U tell me the cam.name and model - just wanna look. Because if the cameras not older then 10 years, they must be adjustable... And what`s with the other opportunity.. If U can not turn the camera warmer - try to adjust the takn lights warmer - it means - U can turn the blue spectrum jy 50%. And the white to 100%. U`ve a realy nice tank - and It would be great to see the tank with the true colors... not the overlighted white color. I mean - U`ve got some graet animals, i`m sure they have great colors...

+anton korablyow At this moment i have three cameras and none of the allow me to adjust the white balance at some point ill purchase another camera for youtube.

I would rather hold the razor by hand to scrape rear glass, but good job for maintenance . Have you ever scratch the glass
FishOfHex
FishOfHex - 8 years ago
+Dan Cast I would do it by hand in my arms could reach but as for scratching the glass its never happened with a razor blade. The scratches on the sides and front are from crappy magfloats.
