Controlling temperature in a reef tank.

One cooooooool video. Summers on the way (unless you live in Australia), but don't panic if your tank gets a bit to hot!!!!. As long as you have no sudden temperature changes when doing a water change, or adding to corals to your tank, any slow rise through out the day of 3f (1.5,c) is O.K. Many of the corals we keep in our tanks come from different parts of the world, so are used to different temperatures. Whilst many can live in cooler temperatures than they are used to, those that like the cooler water below 82.f (28,c), can't live in warmer waters above 82.f.

+Rob D  Thank you. Just don't panic. If your lights are adding heat, then turn them on at night in the summer.

Had no idea you were in England lol. I keep my mixed reef pretty constant year around at 79 F. I use a 400 W heater to heat and a fan placed over my sump to cool.

Yes I'm a limey, from across the pond. I once worked in California, foe three months. People found if difficult to under stand me, that is why I don't talk, and remain an enigma.
79 is perfect.

Sound advice. Why do so many new reefers rush out to buy chillers.

I keep my temp set at 77.5. I live in California so we have cool winters and hot summers. My house is mid 70s f year around. I havent had to deal with the summer yet but after adding a small fan behind my lights it has my temp stable. My ato uses about 5 gallons a week.

Look like you should be O.K
5 gallons sound a lot to be losing in a week. My 100 loses 2 gallons. Try a bit less water movement on the surface, not that it really matters how much water you lose, it you have an auto top off.
