After a bad storm this year where we lost power and I lost a bunch of corals, I got a permanent generator installed on the house not only for the tanks but also to keep the refrigerator and freezer running. Plus my wife almost lost her mind without internet and a place to charge her phone.

I have a eco tech vortech L1 and because if the recent hurricane that hit Florida supplies and power have been a major issue I do not have the battery back up from eco tech and I have been running a inverter from my car. The vortech pump will not turn on and neither will a few other accessories from the inverter. What can I do to keep my stock from dying I've been without power for 3 days any suggestions?

I read some reviews on the vortec backup, that the battery goes to pot in 1 or 2 years. kind of expensive to be that short lived

I have a freshwater tank and In the winter the heater would be more important than the bubbler. What do i use for backup the heater

Heaters can use up energy quickly and therefore a single battery may not be worth the effort for more than a few hours. I would recommend a back up generator if you are in the situation where power loss and low temperatures can be problematic.

Yes, moving water inside an aquarium improves gas exchange which then increases dissolved oxygen levels for the fish. Depleted oxygen levels is your biggest concern during a power outage when keeping an aquarium.

what about the filter media beneficial bacteria what's the best way to keep the filter media still good so I don't lose any beneficial bacteria

+Randon Testa Beneficial bacteria will need oxygenated water to stay alive as well. Anything in your tank should be fine with moving water. If you have separate filter that is offline for any extended period of time it is a good idea to clean it out thoroughly and let the bacteria "re-grow" inside the filter.

If i buy vortech, can i battery backup gyre together with vortech? If i buy icecap, can i battery backup vortech together gyre?

+Chris Wool If you have a power source that supplies enough power for your heater (generator) and powerheads together, it would be a good idea to keep your heater running as well.

Buy a generator with a digital inverter as its the only surefire way to avoid losing thousands of dollars of livestock.

I use APC Battery backups. Luckily in my neighborhood all lines are underground so we rarely have issues with power. If we do it's only for a few minutes. Even so the battery backup is for ease of mind, because even though it doesn't happen.... It doesn't mean it won't!

I'm running a 1500watt inverter, there cleaner and quieter than a gen and kicks in when electric goes down in less than a second.
