What chiller would you use for these system
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 5 years ago
With tanks this small, many reefers would likely be fine with a fan like the Tunze Aquawind. However, if a chiller was absolutely necessary you’d easily get the job done with the smallest chiller we carry at 1/15hp. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/jbj-mini-arctica-chiller-1-15-hp.html

Starting around the 8:00 mark in this video, we go over some spectrum setting options and intensities for the most popular tank types. :)

is there space in the back compartment for a small refugium?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 5 years ago
My concern there would be the return pump getting clogged. It's probably best to browse the reef hobbyist forums like Reef2Reef.com or ReefCentral.com to see if anyone has attempted or successfully added a fuge to these tanks before, and how they did it or what their experiences were.
Zihao Zhang
Zihao Zhang - 5 years ago
How about if I set up the refugium in the far-right rear compartment, under the ATO reservoir?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 5 years ago
There is space in the rear if you remove the included filtration equipment, however the flow pattern through the rear may make it a bit difficult to keep the algae in place as well as you would have to find a way to properly light it.

What ato do you recommend for the Red Sea nano Max?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 6 years ago
Outside of the included ATO reservoir box, if you'd like to upgrade your ATO the Tunze Osmolator or Neptune ATK are good options!

Hmm.. I can't say we've tried or tested that specific product here at BRS. It looks to be less cost effective as compared to mixing your own saltwater. Perhaps you could find some reviews from fellow reefers who have used that solution on the reef hobbyist forums or reef related social media groups.

Not that I'm aware of directly, however you may want to research some reef hobbyist forums like Reef2Reef.com or ReefCentral.com

I would really love to see what kinds of add on’s you can put on this Nano tank like dosers and such. I’m very new to this hobby. I bought this set up two months ago, but I have not put it together yet cause I’m waiting to buy everything I need and still learning what I need to learn.
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 6 years ago
You could really deck out a tank like this, but it isn't absolutely necessary. This video was geared to showing the basics needed to get a reef tank up and running. After that point, what you want to accessorize with will probably be dependent on the type of tank (Softie, LPS, SPS, Mixed) that you intend to run. Those could help you determine what equipment would be beneficial and what may be a bit overkill.

why do you keep turning the eyepiece on the refractometer? I don't believe I have ever touched it, I didnt know if it does anything besides unscrew the eye cup does it?

Nice video, do you think the setup would need a lighting upgrade to keep SPS?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 6 years ago
Perhaps an upgrade to a Hydra26 would provide higher PAR numbers for SPS dominant nano. At that point, it might be more cost effective to get the Red Sea Reefer Nano, where you can add your own equipment and you get a legit sump. :-)

Nice now show everyone how easy it is for beginner hobbyist's to totally destroy a nano reef tank because they are unable to manage the chemistry...
Generally I like BRS and Red Sea but the content is a product sell hardcore and my two cents is if you are a responsible fish business you do not set ppl up with something that will cause them to fail, especially if you care anything for the animals
Michael Krueger
Michael Krueger - 5 years ago
A tank big or small, anybody getting into the hobby should understand the chemistry before diving in. This video isn't about chemistry it's about the tank itself. If I'm just diving in as a noob I think common sense would tell me to watch their other videos to understand that fluctuation in chemistry happens more quickly in a smaller volume of water. If you don't have this common sense then it's not a hobby for you.

Yeah so my buddy has told me that he and his brother both had tanks like this crash after months of setting up. He said this is not as easy as the video is making it out to be.

I had a 2.5 gallon tank in the 1980's using only an undergravel filter. Anyone here old enough to remember those days? That tank lasted years with no problems. When I finally upgraded to a 20 gallon, I simply moved the inhabitants of the small tank to the larger tank. Yes, a little knowledge of water chemistry helps. Regular water changes are mandatory. Don't overfeed. But this hobby has come a long way in the past 30+ years. These all in one kits are a great start, far better than anything I had when I first started keeping marine animals.
Zodd Sonofthor
Zodd Sonofthor - 6 years ago
That's great and very lucky also most likely because you are switched on ;) and know how to control and look after things" sadly many are not and Nano's are not the place for them
Jesus S

My first tank was a 20 gallon AOI. Had the tank for 3 years with not one crash. Never had an issue keeping my clams or coral happy.
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 6 years ago
I definitely see your point here and agree that as a beginner grasping reef tank water chemistry will ultimately help with long term success. The Red Sea Nano tank is one of the many options for new reefers to dive into as well as more advanced hobbyists that are simply looking to add a stylish tank to their collection. Hopefully in either case, we've helped understanding just how a reef tank works in a fun and easy way through our collection of hundreds of videos. :)

I really appreciate BRS and all that they do for the reefing community but I have to say Zodd has a point here. There should be some mention somewhere in the video about marine water chemistry complexity and the research required to manage it long term. Probably also a disclaimer that just because one can set up a SW nano, doesn't mean long term management is as straightforward. Come on BRS, you're better than this.

Is there a clear plastic cover to place on top to stop fish from jumping and less evaporation?

Not for this tank specifically. You could add a DIY screen net for the top to keep fish in. :-)

We don't have a schedule saved for this tank, but you could easily copy it by adjusting your Prime to the spectrum we mentioned and choose somewhere between a 6-9hr photo period with 1hr ramp up/down. :-)

BulkReefSupplyCom That kind of stinks in our weather there's no way we can run a tank without a small csxc-1. This guy would be perfect if you could fit in an extra pump in their. I wonder if you could use just the inline tank pump would be enough..
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 6 years ago
With the included ATO, Skimmer and return pump, there's not much more room for an additional pump. It may be possible with some equipment removed.
