what are baffles used for? Can i just put three dividers?

the baffles help keep bubbles getting to the return pump and into the tank. Thats it really. The water has to go down and under and back up to get to the last or next chamber. So any bubble have a hard time doing that.

ik I build my tank stand without the intention of building a sumpand its a half inch off of fitting a 20 gallon and whats the size of your baffles and could I do it without a protein skimmer mostly need it for the refugium

My baffles were about 1 inch apart. So 2 inches total from one to the other. Mostly did that so I can get in there and clean up with a hose if I needed to. You can do whatever you want in your sump. I mean that there isnt any set way for what you put in there. I had a refugium for a little wile but it just didnt every work out on mine. I had it mostly for the skimmer, heater and reactor.

Sure. The bigger a sump the better. It's just limited by how much space you have for it.

+Aaron R Its a balance of water thats in the main tank and the sump. The main tank will drain into the sump thru the return nozzle. So I just make sure that the nozzle is high enough up in the main tank so that it only drains about 3 gallons back into the sump with no power.

+Nick Nelson bubble trap is on the left b/c thats where the skimmer is and it makes all the micro bubbles. By the time everything flows to the right side all the bubbles are gone.
