Great video, I just have a few questions. First, do you feed these guys? And second, how do you keep them under water without introducing too much of the water they come in to your aquarium? Thanks

I glued my orange tree sponge and it slowly died from that point up. I'll try this next time

I have natural sponges growing all over my tank. But did buy a finger sponge and I glued it to a small rock in the tank with reef glue. It works for me.

Congrats on your copper band! I would love one. As for what's wrong with your tank, its hard to know without more info. Test your water. check everything (ammonia, nitrates, phosphates, ALK, CA, MG and salinity. Also makes sure the temp is good. In theses situation a water change is usually a good idea. Good luck

Very clever. I don't know anything about sponges.
If you had used glue, would it harm the sponge?
MileHighReefers
MileHighReefers - 7 years ago
I don't think the super glue would stick directly to the sponge. I'm also afraid it would prevent the sponge from pulling water thru its body

I've failed miserably with a few sponges but your plan seems sound. . how about putting coral glue on the fork stem and sliding the sponge on top. ?

+MileHighReefers You can say that again. . My buddy impulsively bought 2 at the last reef swap and i knew they were doomed. ..

Thanks Dee! the coral glue would probably work really well. Mine is super glued and that's working too. Sponges have the reputation of being difficult.

Very informative video Scott. They are very nice and do add depth to your tank but that's a lot of work to try and get them to encrust on your rock. I think I will leave them to the more experienced reefers.
MileHighReefers
MileHighReefers - 7 years ago
Thanks Scott! I like but I haven't hand much luck with them encrusting.

+MileHighReefers well i don't have angels so ok there I've seen a orange one I'm thinking of getting

They are a filter feeder so the actually clean the water. Down side is they can be tricky to keep and angels eat them.

I sometimes see yt videos of people with your kind of sponge and wonder if their angelfish ever nips at them. Going from memory I don't recall you having an angelfish so I guess that won't be an issue for you. I'm amazed at the colors sponges can come in and being a filter feeder is an added bonus.
When I started seeing little pineapple sponges and ugly white sponges growing in my tank I didn't like them at first but then I said to myself, "hey free food for any of my fish and free filter feeding!" :D

I don't keep angels. I would love to if I could. I've always stayed away because they tend to eat sponges, clams and corals. I also have lots of white sponge in my tank from the live rock. It's not pretty but it is kind of cool
