My simple 100g reef tank no sump.

See better video and lastest update in H.D!!, on my channel trailer. 6 mounth up date. Corals are 3-18 months old, all grown under T5 lighting. All S.P.S corals are grown from frags. The tank is slowly being restocked with fish, after marine ich out brake. Tank was left fishless for 8 weeks.

Really cool tank. What's the reason you don't use a sump?

It just makes life easier. The tank was second hand off ebay, and I did not want to drill the glass for a sump. I would only have a sump if the tank was ready drilled. Hang on the back overflows can overflow!!!.

I broke down the tank, got the fish out, left the tank fish free, but still full of shrimp crabs and corals for 8 weeks. The fish went in a Q.T tank with hyposalinity!!.

Because I have a canopy that sits too low to the tank. Thats why I use my True Lumens LEDS which are not worth a crap. If I use the T-5 HO's, they will be too close to my top plastic frame and the UV rays will deteriate & crack the plastic. Some do not believe this, but it will happen. If I remove the canopy & mount the T-5s higher, then it will be a nuisance as the tank is in the living room and the light will interfere with us watching TV. Any suggestions?

Why!!. you have the tank and set up. All you need to do, is make sure of have 250-350 watts of T.5 lighting over head. Half 10,000-15,000k tubes, and half 55,000 blue actinic tubes. Add your 30 years experiance, and your away. Go for it!!.

Doc, love the tank! I like the way you have the corals & rock straight down the middle of the tank. I too once thought of doing the same. Dig the starfish, the green shroom and the rest of your collection. Keep up the fantastic work! But it will be quite some time before my 125 even comes close. Bravo!

get a bottle of nitrifying bacteria it'll turn the ammonia to nitrate quick so you don't lose anymore livestock and maybe keep you ok til you find out the real problem. Also you can run biopellets on your system. That would keep you in check on your ammonia, nitrate and phosphate as well.

Your ammonia should be 0.1 or below. Bulk Reef Supply T.V tell you to do comlpeat water change, after cycling your rock, with out pointing out, what can happen if your rock is left uncoverd!!. If you can move live stock, to a Q.T tank with fresh water in it, this will be good. (It could be a large bucket/ storage container). And do another water 30% water change. Good luck.

Steps taken so far: 30% water change, added ammonia reducer. I also have coral which look alive but not happy. What should I do as the ammonia has not reduced. Should a leave the tank for a 3 days and pray my corals survive and the change some more water?

Need some urgent help, I took my live rock out for about 30 minutes to try and aqua scape. However, when put back in I had a massive ammonia spike. I had also put some epoxy in the tank to hold some coral and did not realise if the water gets a little cloudy from the putty it decreases the oxygen in tank. Stupidly I read the warning after. However I lots my blood red and sexy shrimp. I am totally stressed out. My ammonia is now 2 ppm and the rest of the levels are high. Please help me

Thank you. one acropora is not looking so good. Low phoshates, and careful dosing of calcium, and carbonate is the key!!
