I have a question, why is it that you disable comments for all of your future videos pretty much? I always assumed it was because people are just rude and easiest way to disregard that is just disabling it to begin with. Was I right? Lol

All these technical terms are going over my head but I still like your videos. I used to have a 29 gallon salt water tank when I was growing up in the late 80s early 90s. I had none of the fancy equipment there is these days. All I had were a few dead corals, a powerhead, air pump and filter. I fed them flake food and occasionally brine shrimp. Surprisingly some of my fish lived for years. I hope to one day get back into the hobby and have a tank like this.

I have a 75 Gallon tank with a 40 breeder sump. I see you have a Purple Tang in a 90, seeing as the only difference between a 90 and a 75 is a few inches of height do you think I would be able to keep a Purple Tang in my 75? I would like to upgrade to a 125 within the next year or so but I don't want to feel bad for the fish if I can't upgrade as fast as I'd like to.

I am feeding PE miss shrimp, formula 1 pellet food, rods food, and nori. I feed the tank 1-2 times a day and am doing about a 15-20 gallon water change on a weekly basis. Is there any other foods or anything else i can do to get my fish looking fat and really healthy?? Thanks for the help.

your choice of powerheads is mostly dependent on budget and what type of corals you want to keep. The controllable ones (tunze, ecotech marine vortechs) will do anything you want them to. Less "jazzy" ones like the hydor koralias will work well even without being controllable. For sand I put in 1.5" of depth.

Mr. Saltwater Tank TV
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV - 11 years ago
Garett...your coral might be needing more light and it might just behave that way naturally in your tank. I've had plenty of corals that looked one way in my tank and when I placed them in someone else's tank they looked much different. As long as the coral is growing and you don't need it loosing any of it's flesh, I would leave it be.

At this time I have 4 of them now in my tank because I gave some away. They have moved from time to time but I find that typical when they find a spot they like that stay put for a long time. I have never lost a coral from their movement. They are one of my favorites in my tank.

After running the tank for a week or so then you can add a hardy fish, i added a clown which is beautiful, usually peaceful, and hardy

what do you feed your bi colour blenny?
Dee From Brooklyn
Dee From Brooklyn - 12 years ago
I put them in at night so my blenny and serpent star get a chance to eat. They also multiplied for a while, but then i stopped adding them
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV - 12 years ago
@astchiefy I feed brine during the day so the fish can quickly eat them. Otherwise they quickly get dumped into my sump which makes feeding them worthless.
Dee From Brooklyn
Dee From Brooklyn - 12 years ago
I actually had my mandarin for a year and a half after getting into the habit of moving my sand once a week. The copapod in my sump didnt hurt either. He eventual disappeared but I think the serpent star may have been the culpret. What do you think about introducing live brine shrimp into the tank at night? I did that which seemed to keep the gobys happy but stopped hatching them which was a bit of a pain.
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV - 12 years ago
@11dago1 correct as it doesn't eat anything frozen...which stinks

@manafreake either way, I'd leave the maroon out. White stripes aren't as aggressive as gold stripes, but maroons overall tend to be aggressive, esp to other clowns.
John S.
John S. - 12 years ago
@mrsaltwatertank ...thank you for the reply. I notice that you indicate to leave the Gold stripes out...but I have a White stripe maroon clown. Do you also suggest I keep the White stripe out of my 90 that currently has the pair of false clowns? Thanks in advance for your clarification. Love your videos btw...cute baby too!
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV - 12 years ago
@manafreake leave the gold stripe out. Gold stripes are the most aggressive clowns and they'll likely go after your false percs.

Hi. Super Nice Tank. Congrats. Also, I have a 90 gallon reef with a pair of false clown fish along with 8 other fish. I have a 2 inch white stripe maroon clown that I would love to put in there (it's currently in my 15 gallon since I have no other place for it) I have a rose bubble tip anemone in my 90 gallon that my pair of false clowns do not host. They instead host a colony of frogspawn. I know that the maroon clown would host my bubble in a second. Any advise about adding my maroon.

Mr. Saltwater Tank TV
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV - 13 years ago
@KimLegend93 a couple of weeks. The coraline is more a function of water quality vs. just time. As your tank ages and everything gets stable. you'll notice it coming in.
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV
Mr. Saltwater Tank TV - 13 years ago
@kalapnath you place it in your tank and use a bacteria product like SeaChem's Stability. That will kick start your nitrogen cycle and get the rock back to life.

@Aperfectcircle5 coraline algae will grow with good water parameters. You don't need live rock to have it grow. I've seen coraline die off if the tank parameters aren't in check.

Awesome job man! I'm not doing the wall look in my large tank too. I made my own rock and it looks awesome, can't wait to set it all up, 75 or 125 gal. Mine will have rock pillars for better water flow. Love your tank. Can't wait for your next video.

Great video. Lots of good info and advise. I hope that my 185 one day will look like this. But I am not a huge fan of SPS. I am more of like to see the movement of corals and what not. Take a look at my build if you have a chance.
