Tried some LEDs and didn't have any improvements. The system actually suffered with growth, spread and colors in the long run. Even my kids could tell!! Went back to my ATI T5 only fixture and saw great results showing that the problem was exclusively light related. I've spent same amount of money to run them. Electricity bill didn't change at all! Still had to use chiller with those LEDs. Waste of time!! Tullio actually said the truth, but didn't want to get fired by the LED people IMO. T5s are way better than LEDs, period! If you can run halides you will love it. Application comes down to choose the right wattage and fixture size both for halides and T5s.The fact that LEDs have those ramping programs and dials for spectrum changes doesn't make them better in any way, just different. Most of the features aren't necessary or used. Main thing, like Tullio said, the LEDs are changed every so often for one reason or the other and more money will be spent in the long run then changing the T5 bulbs yearly. Hope people wake up and understand this video once for all!!!!

Yeah, that is unbelievable. T5s are set and forget. Great colors/growth all the time! Changing any bubs/spectrum won't burn corals. It's aways a pleasure to change the bulbs every 12 months. Aways something different to try or keep it as is. My current system is running for 10 years + and I never had absolutely any issues!! T5s all the way. Bigger tanks? Halides/T5s all the way!! Serious lights for serious hobbyists!

For a 130 gallon tank what's the led spec I would need?

No buying much of this. Use hydroponic t5s and hydropinic light fixture. 10K's are less than 1/3 aquarium mark up and will always be less than LED's

ill agree with him about over a 5-7 year period the cost of bulbs wont match up to the price of high end leds but i have yet to have a t5 fixture last that long either ballast burn out bulbs burning out even before they are expected to cooling fans giving out and the cost of electricity running multiple bulbs. they the only real difference leds get hot spots and are more customizable compared to t-5s and shimmer.

I used both and T5's are best if you have coral. LED works well too though, but not as good, for me anyway.

Yeah, When I started the hobby I was using T5's and you do definitely get good growth out of the corals and a more evenly lit tank. Thanks for stopping by the channel. :)

People always over charge for lighting & almost everything for a reef tank. I bet I can build my own lighting system cheaper

i am nit knocking T5 or LEDs. this is somewhat misleading but then again this is a sales pitch to buy a competing product. LED lights last up to 20 times longer than fluresent tubes. the degradation is 10 to 20 years before it needs replacing. and where did they get 1600 dollars for LED features. bulbs cost for a 4foot feature around $20 a bulb times that by at least 4 so $80 them your running costs and light fixture and they can be just as expensive or even more depending on the average LED fixture of equivalent size. from what I have seen and read it seems a hybrid approach appears to be best.T5 fill in the shadow areas and LEDs give the look everyone wants without having to run metal halydes. I would love to see the science behind this but I think this was more of let me sale my product more than anything

That guy is actually one of the best in regards to light! He knows much more than anyone in the market! What he said are facts and he actually works more with LEDs than T5s or halides.
He is talking about what people think are the best LED fixtures...
Halides are the best to offer to the corals. T5s comes next. I don't even consider any LED in the market today for a reef tank! It's about the QUALITIES of the light source, not only the looks and prices.

Thanks Scott. Yes you can, Tullio has been doing this a long time and there's a lot of scientific research and work that goes into lighting for our reef aquariums.

ReefBrite is used by many different professionals in the industry. I used to run T5s when I had the 75 gallon aquarium

I'm planning on using the ATI Powermodule for my 180 build. I believe a duel system of LEDs and T5 provides a good balance. Guess I'll put that to the test. Great video! Have a good one!
