I would probably say anemones are best for clownfish, but some clowns will host corals like euphyllia as well.

BulkReefSupplyCom

I usually like to since it can look a bit bulky in the tank, but a lot of folks leave them on it and glue them direct to the rocks.

do you need rodi water for a saltwater fishtank, I'm not investing in that much money for a unit, How much would it cost to get water from a local fishstore
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 8 years ago
+Robin Mounter I would recommend using RO/DI water since it gives you the best possible starting point towards success with your reef. Our local fish store charges around .39 cents a gallon for RO/DI. Just keep in mind that's a lot of jugs to haul around. ;)

BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 8 years ago
+John John That is most likely a Bubble Coral Shrimp (Vir philippinensis). Unfortunately they aren't commonly collected in the aquarium trade. That being said, I would look into the Pederson Cleaning Shrimp, Scarlet cleaning shrimp, and fire shrimp. :)

Draco Storm - 9 years ago
Okay, thank you. I guess I will have to research how to frag corals now.
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 9 years ago
+Draco Storm Yup! You can frag them and sell the frags, or you can mount them on a rock that is distanced away from your main rock work.
Draco Storm
Draco Storm - 9 years ago
Okay. So is there away to easily control where they spread?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 9 years ago
+Draco Storm Zoanthids are awesome, but they can be a little aggressive. They won't affect your biological filtration, but they can definitely grow to the point where the brush up against other more passive corals and sting them.

Hi, I am getting a standard 10 gallon tank setup right now and am using a Hydor Koralia Nano 240 circulation pump along with two of the Innovative Marine single light strips- a 14,000K and an actinic bulb. I am also going to use the Instant Ocean salt mix. What corals would you recommend as I am a beginner but am committed to taking good care of the corals like target feeding and stuff?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 9 years ago
+Draco Storm Usually water changes are enough to keep up with the demands of soft corals, but I would still recommend the usually test kits; calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, phosphate, nitrate, and salinity.
Draco Storm
Draco Storm - 9 years ago
Thank you. If I was to do a soft coral only tank, them would I need to dose anything and/or would I need to get test kits for anything?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 9 years ago
+Draco Storm No problem. A lot of LPS corals do pack a powerful sting. As long as they are not touching other corals (especially at night when they expand) then you should be just fine. Lighting, dosing, and water flow will be your biggest difference from FOWLR to a reef.
Draco Storm
Draco Storm - 9 years ago
Thanks for the input. I assume those corals would be fine with the equipment I currently have. I have heard that LPS corals tend to be very aggressive though. Is there any type of caution I need to have when keeping both groups together? Also, what extra things might I need from these corals as supposed to a FOWLR?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 9 years ago
+Draco Storm For beginners corals I would defintely recommend soft corals and some of the easier LPS to start. Things like zoanthids, mushrooms, and leather corals make good and colorful starters. Beginner LPS could be things like hammer, frogspawn, duncan, and torch corals.

Hi! Quick question. I just bought someone an acan as a gift but now I'm reading that it's semi-aggressive... do I have to be worried about it eating any fish? Or small crabs? I know he has the small ones with blue striped legs...  He also has a small mandarin and goby.  Also, if food usually makes its way to the floor, does he have to feed the acan manually? Thanks!
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 9 years ago
+JAZJessMusic Normally the aggressiveness in corals is related to the potency of their sting.  Corals in the wild are always fighting for space on the reef.  In the aquarium, an aggressive coral like an Acanthastrea when placed too close to another coral could sting it and kill it.  I don't think you'll need to worry about fish with them.  We have a few fish here that think our Acans make nice Lay-Z-Boys. Target feeding them will increase their growth, but it's not necessary.

Hi
Thank you for your really useful videos.
I don't know if I can ask you about my coral problem here or not but please help me if you can.
I have a Oval Flower Pot Coral, a few days age it felt on the sands, I took it and changed it's place, but from last night it began to exude something white from some part of it, what is it? Is my coral dieing? What should I do to save it?
Ali Farzinrad

Thanks for your attention, I've searched a lot and found that it's Brown Jelly disease, it's spreading in my tank, my hammer torch has infected too, don't know what to do, please help me if you can.
And something else, do you have any movie about curring diseases???
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 9 years ago
+Ali Farzinrad Thank you for watching!  :)  It's tough to say exactly what is happening to the coral without photos.  It is possible it is receding some of it's tissue from damage caused by the sand, or it could be something as simple (and cool) as the coral spawning.  I would recommend monitoring its health over the next few weeks and see if it progresses any worse or if you notice a loss of tissue.

I just started my salt water fish tank today I need some better lights to get coral and I still need my live rock any tips
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 10 years ago
+dj36029 Especially for a new tank we would suggest dry rock (in particular the reef saver is really easy to work with) and 100% pest free.  http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-reef-saver-dry-aquarium-live-rock.html

Lights really depend on what corals you plan to keep, but assuming your tank has at least something you can hold off on that until your tanks established enough to add some corals and you have an idea of what you want.

What would a dual T5 set of bulbs be considered as? I have a 10,000k bulb and one actinic bulb in a 75 gallon tank. Would it be considered low, medium or high?
BulkReefSupplyCom
BulkReefSupplyCom - 10 years ago
I'm not sure what you mean by "considered low, medium. high" but if you're referring to the amount of light output then 2 bulbs over a 75g tank would generally be considered low.  +Alejandro Hurtado
OhmannOcean
OhmannOcean - 10 years ago
low, if they are High-Outputs then MAYBE Medium but probably not. I would say 4 T5HO bulbs would be good for just about everything though.

It may just be a placement issue then. Might not like its location, too much flow, not enough, to much/little light etc. Usually they like pretty high lighting with a moderate amount of flow. Might not hurt to do an extra water change or two either!

I just read that since LPS corals are at the botttom of the reefs, 130 down, they get maybe 30 par of light hitting them. Has anyone tried LPS or soft corals with a low lit tank with lights that aren't reef lights? It almost, ALMOST makes me want to go out and buy one small LPS and see if it will live under LED lights that aren't reef lights.
