The system is ran off of 1 inch of sand in the display, 3 inches in the sump, macro algae in the refugium with 30 pounds of liverock and 70 pounds of liverock in the display tank. I currently only run filter floss with activated carbon and a 36 inch UV sterelizer that runs into more carbon. I have no protein skimmer in use on the system as I look towards my corals and the use of sponges throughout to keep my water colomn clean and pristine. All my readings are spot on and have only done a total of 3 water changes in 8 months with the first water change not being performed for 6 months on the tank. Great cause im running a 55 gallon and paying 200 for a skimmer seems like a waste. I love to tinker with my tank so water changes are not a problem for me. I will though add some seachem Purigen & chemi pur elite to help with organics and phosphates.

Hey bud, yeah I ran this tank for over a year without a skimmer and it did just fine! Stay up on water changes and your good to go, with the help of good live rock and the right amount of live sand of course!

Are you still running this skimmer less? I have a 55 gallon aquarium and I feel regular water changes are enough compared to skimming. I LOVE to mess with my tank so water changes are not a problem.

Honestly its because you only really have soft corals, which are high nitrates absorbers, if you were to have SPS, they'd probably die...

Beautiful tank, but did you happen to notice all of the aiptasia? It will over run your tank and kill all of your corals, so you should really get that checked out.

Tank looks great. I'm planning on redoing my 125 gallon with less rock in the display similar to yours. Do you have a calcium reactor or any kind of kalk drip system in place? Filtered RO/DI water for top off?
