How come alot of saltwater fish require more space than cichlids? Most cichlids grow quicker and bigger than saltwater fish. Maybe you should do a video on that. That would be sweet
Mad Hatter's Reef
Mad Hatter's Reef - 6 years ago
It depends on what your trying to accomplish in your aquarium. If it’s a fish only generally it can take more fish, but a reef tank I would go with a lighter bio-load.

Most expensive fish I've ever bought was purple tang @$250, mystery wrasse@ $ 240, pair of A+ Picasso clowns @ $ 300, potters angel @ $200, comet that had 2 tail eye spots @ $200, blue ribbon eel @ $150, and a few others in the $150 - $250 range plus a baby epaulette shark and blue spot ribbon tail ray both cost around $180each in a predator system. Bit of a difference with prices here in Aus though. We can pay as much as $400 for a black cap gramma, but a harlequin tusk is about $90, $ 60 for a liniatus wrasse. I pick up my radiant wrasse in 2 days and he was $145. There's one thing all reefers have in common all over the world though....we do empty our pockets for the livestock and equipment we want in this hobby!

most expensive fish i have purchased is not the fish i paid the most for... so far...
it is a marine betta, at the time i bought him, online pricing was between $85-120, but i paid $30.... how you ask? when i was buying him, the store clerk dropped him from the top tank displays when netting him, onto a textured concrete floor. not only a 6"+ fall, but also was scrapped up really bad. he was not doing well and figured he would have a better chance to survive if i took him home rather than leave him in the store. so i bought at the discounted price.
i nursed him back to health, and he recovered well. that was 1½ yrs ago. grown from just under 2" to almost 5" now. and shows no signs of ever being damaged.
he has his own tank with custom foam/concrete background complete with a cave he likes to chill in. shared with brown leg hermits, couple of medium sized whelk snails, and a pencil urchin. (trying to keep a brown motife going, and am still searching for some starry hermits)
of course he is not eating frozen or flake food, and never will. copepods are abundant, and regularly i add amphipods from fuges/sumps from other systems.
one of my favorite fish, to date.

Thanks for the vid. Interesting. Always loved the long nose tang, such a great contrast to most reef tank inhabitants. May I add the Clarion Angelfish? That's a special import of between 5k and upwards of 8k. Most expensive fish I've ever caught (wild-collected) was a Pinnatus Batfish, an Emperor Angelfish (juvenile), a Scribbled Angelfish, a Volitan Lionfish (also other types of lionfish) and a Moorish Idol, as far as I can remember. I've never actually netted but have hand fed a Flathead perch and a juvenile Queen Angelfish. Meaning I'm confident that I most likely could have netted them if I'd wanted to. The most expensive fish I've ever paid money for was a Powder Blue Tang. Thumbs up on your vid.

I've actually kept a Achilles tang before... two of them actually. They are extremely susceptible to many diseases. You should have called this the top 10 semi common saltwater fish. No Gem tang - which aren't even that expensive compared to a lot of angels, lots of wrasses more $$$ then Linetaus, no Clarion, Conspicuous, let alone Peppermint, and none of the butterflies you mention ect. The crosshatch is the only one that is likely to cost $1000+ on your list almost all the time. Most of your list you can find in stock at a good lfs/online store without much trouble as long as they are in season.

lol, that one is more likely the more aggressive out of the pair. If it is bigger, it is likely the female. I bought a black oc. clown and a regular oc. clown and they were perfectly fine and now the black one is getting bigger than the regular oc clown and thinks it is a killer whale and attacks me when i am cleaning the tank.
