How about the heat? how much the led increased heat in your tank? and what's your water parameter while using this reactor? and how much cheato you put back as seed?

I never paid attention to how much heat this ads to the tank. My kids room where the tank is located is really warm so a fan is used to keep the tank cool. My latest Triton test showed phosphates at .01. I usually leave about 10 percent in. If you nutrients are high, leave about 25% so the nutrients absorption rate doesn't drop too low. This tank gets fed a lot. a cube of mysis and a healthy amount of spirulina flakes on alternate days.

Just added basically the same algae reactor to my Fluval Evo 13.5. Ordered the whole kit from Marine Depot. It only took a week to fill up mine though so I think the only difference is the pump.

ReefingwithO the one I got was purchased with the cobalt mj1200 pump. I added a video on my page last week and updated yesterday to show growth. Our reactors seem like the same size. My aquarium lights are on 7am to 9pm and my reactor is on 9pm to 12pm.

Nice tank. I had a 90 gallon setup 10 yrs ago but moved and had to get rid of everything. I had just started using Chaeto in my sump with pretty good results. One question? With running a Chaeto reactor do you not need to worry about protein skimming anymore or still necessary?

I "upgraded" this tank to a innovative marine 14 gallon that has the small back sump. It still has the algae reactor as the main filtration.

They do water changes with some help from me. We have it measured out how much salt to add to the water so it comes out perfect. I also have a digital refractometer that is easy for my 9 year old to use.

I put kalkwasser on a small dosing pump to maintain calcium and alkalinity.

I use Reef Crystals salt.

That's the plan - to possibly upgrade the tank later while only purchasing minimal equipment. In the past I wasn't very forward looking with some of my purchases and it would've saved me a lot of money. I definitely learned my lesson.

Nitrates <5 - It's hard to read some of the nitrates test kits at low levels. Phosphate .03 using the Hanna Checker Ultra Low Range checker.

Calcium at 420 and alk at 9. I use Kalkwasser in the top-off water.

It's on for 16 hours a day - It could probably be less but 16 hours works for me. I want it working hard since its the main filtration. I bought a small 100gph hydor pump that works well. I got the reactor, tubes and light from MarineDepot. I am using the standard sized Aquamaxx reactor.

What a beautiful tank - I love your approach to having it for your sons. I've never seen an algae reactor before - my chaeto is in the centre compartment of my sump that acts as a kind of refugium (also works perfectly for keeping molly fry out of the display and away from the parents). I agree that chaeto acts as an excellent form of nutrient export and wouldn't be without it. Your reactor is a super idea for a nano. I enjoyed this video, it's a gorgeous tank!

Thanks! I'm a huge fan of your channel. I'm surprised how well this worked. It's relatively cheap and efficient and no need for a noisy skimmer.
