Do you glue the pipe into the bulk head as well?

LOL you answered my question...I didn't get far enough into the video before you talked about the bulkhead and PVC...Thanks for the video...

Hi, I have a question, did you glue the PVC into t he bulkhead? Or is that threaded PVC to the bulkhead? I'm asking because in the event I need to remove a bulkhead, then the PVC could get in the way. Thanks, and the set up looks great...

I am quite confused on what setup to have the most reliable failsafe to prevent overflow and reverse siphon. what is the best setup?

I seen there's a Herbie method, which is not reliable really and the Bean Animal.

What do I do?

so in order to use the reverse suction to do water changes means you did not drill a hold at the top of the return?

Correct, there isn't any siphon break hole in the return line.  I position the return about 1" below the water line to break the siphon if the check-valve fails to close in the case of power outage.  My sump is large enough to contain the additional water that will be siphoned back until the break will occur based on the positioning of the return line.

Thanks for the great video! I have the same Aqueon 90g tank and it looks like both holes are drilled for a 1in bulk head. Was this the same on yours? I only ask cause my goal was to use a 3/4 return and the 1in threw me off

ReefGeekTV - 10 years ago
Thanks!  Nope, my tank's return hole is 3/4" and the drain is 1".  My tank is 1 year old, so maybe they changed their setup.  I would buy a fitting that will reduce it to 3/4" if that is the size that you would desire.

Are any of these threaded or all glue, and if threaded where did you at?

What size PVC pipe are you using?

I don't think it would hurt to hard plumb your freshwater tank to a sump that will contain things like your filter, heater, etc. It would make it easier down the road if that is the desired setup when you switch over to saltwater. I know with all the great planted tank channels on YouTube I have a growing interest in starting a freshwater planted tank and I will have a sump on that tank. As far as the protein skimmer I don't think it is necessary on freshwater.

nice setup. i enjoy watching yours videos very much. its better to have your reacter pump in the last stage because the pump will suck larger things into the reacter and clog the reacter a lot easier
