~Review~ TEQStone 6-Switch LED Light Bar Panel with Volt Meter USB & Cig Lighter 4 Truck, Jeep, Boat

This TEQStone switch panel is built with quality components. The switches themselves are either Carling or Carling Clone switches which normally cost about $10 each. The voltmeter reads within .1V of my Craftsman multimeter. I tested the USB ports using a constant current load resistor and a USB multimeter. Both ports were capable of sustained output at 2.5amps without any voltage drop. Most USB devices like phones and tablets hardly ever draw more than an amp for a long period of time. Based on my tests, I would feel confident plugging 2 of my most power-hungry devices in at the same time. The switches are already screen printed with icons and text. Most are light oriented which is why this switch panel would be particularly suited for a truck or jeep. You could easily remove the screen printed labels with some goof off, or cover them with electrical tape. Personally I will probably just leave them all as-is and remember that the "Zombie Lights" switch controls my flux capacitor. Conclusion: This switch panel is made with quality components. I have purchased and used each one of these 4 components in other projects and know first hand that they are pricey. Getting all of them in one package for this price is a good deal. ~~Support the Channel~~ + Subscribe & Hit the Thumbs-Up Button (This Helps the Video Show up in Search Results) + Use My amazon and ebay links + Throw Some Bills in the Tip Jar. I have the same setup but with 8 switches. Haven't figured out a way to mount mine yet either. They should offer a box enclosure to mount it in for much easier installation...However, they're actually designed for Marine applications in a boat so it would be installed directly into a dash in a boat where in a car you most likely don't have space to cut out to install in a dash in a car.

@GadgetClass I don't have any panels in my vehicle to install a switch panel so its up to me to figure out a place to mount my switch panel/box when I get it built so that its easy to access but not in the way of anything else...kind of a pain in a smaller older vehicle LOL.
GadgetClass
GadgetClass - 5 years ago
Exactly. I ended up going with a 4 switch version that did fit one of my panel openings.

If they are Carling clones you can get replacement covers with anything printed on them online. Also available @ O'REILLY and other parts stores.

The buttons do have a slight illumination in the off position to help you find and identify them when off. Current draw is minimal, but if it is a boat or vehicle that is not used very often, I would have the panel turn on with ignition, or with one of the switches like I ended up doing.

It says has built-in overload protection but exactly how does that take place because I don’t see any type of a relay or fuse or anything to support that?
GadgetClass
GadgetClass - 5 years ago
That's a good question. I added a fuse appropriate to the load and wire size. Maybe they are referring to the USB port circuit having overload protection.
Cory Derrickson
Cory Derrickson - 5 years ago
Only thing i'm going to say is, it is never a good idea to tie into a factory harness in any way. Always, always run your own wire to the battery or a secondary power source.
Cory Derrickson
Cory Derrickson - 5 years ago
Like I said, it's always better to create your own closed, often waterproof system to ensure safety.
GadgetClass
GadgetClass - 5 years ago
@Cory Derrickson I definitely wouldn't recommend someone start tying into circuits unless they know exactly what they are doing and the potential damage they can do. Many people do just tie into random circuits, or use those fuse panel piggyback leads which are never a good idea.
Cory Derrickson
Cory Derrickson - 5 years ago
I disagree, any point in which you tie into the factory wiring could cause an unforeseen problem and catastrophic failure of the whole system given any simple issue with the new wiring. It's always best (unless doing a plug and play such as a stereo) to run your own wiring. If said wiring fails it is 1 easier to diagnose. 2 will not compromise the integrity of the vehicle or its ability to move down the road.
GadgetClass
GadgetClass - 5 years ago
It is common to tie into On-with-ignition in custom car audio installations. All points of tie-in under the dash will generally be post-fuse box and will have their own fuse. Any high drain, or high amp device (such as an amp or lighting circuit) should tap directly on the battery though.

This is the 4th video about the switches and they are all being fitted by nob heads that don't know anything about vehicle wiring. He's talking shit, what the switches are or what you run from them has nothing to do with your fuse size. It's all about the cable you use nob

30A fuse???? Dude! Those don't look like 10awg wires (but hey I could be wrong). Your going to have wires catch fire long before that fuse blows if those are less than 10 gauge...

It would take up the space under the upfitter switches or you could go with a full console...

would it be necessary to have each accessory fused? if so would inline fuses be the best/simplest way?
Jarred Jones
Jarred Jones - 7 years ago
no it really wouldnt... most "12v accessory outlets" which is what that is and not a cigarette lighter are rated 10 to 15 amps... i would tie the usb and accessory outlet and voltmeter to one 20 amp fuse and then find out what the switches are rated for.. usually 10 amps a piece... 10 amps x 6 = 60 amps

what professionals do is find out what the max amperage of your "load" is and then add 25% for expansion.

those large led off road bars draw around 7 amp and the smaller ones around 1 - 5 a piece... therefore you could

lets say you use the switches for what they are "designed for" the led bar 7 amps and multiple 1 - 5 amp led spot or driving lights will go on the high end with 5 amp led lights.and 1 set per switch...

5 x2 x5 = 50 and thats without the 7 amp bar... bang there went that fuse... (that is of course that you have them all on...)

now for the low side 1 x 2 x 5 = 10

so all 6 banks on thats 17 amps plus whatever miliamps the voltmeter and usb are using (plus the backlighting for the switches themselves)...

so we will say 18 amps just to leave out tenths of an amp.... now you have a buffer zone of 12amps for the accessory outlet. plug in something something like an amber strobe or rotator bar for all your whackering needs and POP there goes a fuse...
GadgetClass
GadgetClass - 7 years ago
Johnny Clark The way it is wired, it would be best to just fuse the whole switch bank with a 30 amp fuse.

BRB Adventurer

As long as you have a fuse for the main power and use proper connectors, not household wiring lugs you should be fine. I would like to see the back a little better and see how it is wired as the power going in is for the lights on the switches but is everything controlled by the same input or is there a free lug to attach your trip wire. I wire everything through a relay as it takes all the load off the switch and you can control brighter lights with your high beam switch going into the relay (that is the law in my province), but then fog or rock lights can be on the park light circuit and when you shut your lights off with the factory switch all lights go off no matter if the new panel switch is on or not.
GadgetClass

Vv-The-Dead-vV If you aren't comfortable tapping into auxiliary 12V circuits, you may want to have someone install it for you.

if installed properly, no, it will not damage your car.
