Trent!! Im looking to get into surfing and was wondering if the short round would be ideal as a first board. I’ve been hearing that longboard is the way to learn but with a background in skating and ability to pick up things pretty quick i wouldnt want to purchase a longboard as id like to transition into thrashing around as soon as i can w/o having to purchase a 2nd board. I live in the Bay Area abt an hour away from the northern coastline of CA where theres numerous spots for beginner surf. Any feedback is helpful!

Lucien, the short round wouldn't at all be a bad option. Check out the Puddle Jumper though. That would be a pretty perfect board to learn on and transition into a fun short board. Give us an email at REALPro@realwaterpsorts.com if you need help getting sized up or anything!

Hi I’m Sam, I’m 16 and have been surfing for just under 4 years. I spent the first 2 on a 7ft foamie and the most recent 2 on a 6’8 hybrid of about 42 litres . The hybrid was great for getting my wave count up and I improved a lot, learning of to do basic turns and generate speed. Now however I want to move onto the world of manoeuvres and feel the 6’8 is too much board under my feet. I’ve had several boards in mind to move down to and have watched a lot of your videos online about which to ride. My number one choice so far is the Lost Short Round at 6ft because I feel 35L is about my volume range. Other models I looked at were the CI Average Joe 5’7, the CI Sampler 6ft, the Lost Puddle Jumper 5’8. I live in Britain and do the majority of my surfing in the summer where the waves are usually 3-6ft but still would like a board that can perform in the bigger autumn and winter swells. I’m 5’11 and 65kg. I’d love to here your advice on what board you think would be right for me as well as sizing volume and length. Thanks.

Cheers Ashton, I’ll look into the Puddle Jumper HP. Thanks for the help.

Hello Sam, Thanks for writing in. 35L is a good step down from your 42L 6'8. For your wave range, the Short Round is a good call, it has a full nose to help you paddle and maintain a high wave count while still being an easy board to maneuver. The Average Joe and Puddle Jumper are both grovellers, meant to surf smaller waves from 1-4 ft, you would likely have a blast on the Puddle Jumper but it is meant for smaller waves than your 3-6 foot range. The Sampler is more of a traditional shortboard, with a narrow nose, tail, and higher rocker, It will be more sensitive but harder to learn on. Another good option is the new ...Lost Puddle Jumper HP, it is easy to surf like the Puddle Jumper but works well in better surf. Hope this helps - Ashlon

Hi , I love your show, it's very educative for dude like me, I'm in conflict, my daily board is a pyzel slab 6.2 34.7lt, I don't know if I buy a 5.11 with 34lt or a 6.0 with 35.6 carbon wrap, I'll use the short round as summer board

I'm in doubt because everybody say that carbon warp flouted more than PU, so should I buy a a 5.11 with 34lt or a 6.0 with 35.6?

Thanks

HOW IS TE PYZEL SLAB ?? does it get in the waves early . there are just a view comments about the slab.

Hey Antonio,
The 6'0 would be a great size for you. It's a high enough volume to be fun in small surf but still low enough to hold onto steep faces and turns. Check out our stock here: http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards/lost/short-round

Hi, thanks for fast answer, I'm 1.80m, 95kg, I'm from Portugal usually we have good waves, but during the summer they are very weak and small, thanks
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 6 years ago
Hey Tramm, Thanks for writing in. You'll want more volume in your small wave board for sure, but it's hard to tell if the 6'0 would be too big without knowing how much you weigh and where you're surfing?

Hey, was think on picking this board up for some small-average wave surf. Not sure which dimensions would be best though. I'm 155lbs and 5'10''. What would you recommend?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Nick, we recommend a 5'9 this is going to offer you good performance in small surf while still being a low enough volume to hold when you are out on big days. Cheers - Ashlon

REAL Watersports I'm surfing on the north-east coast(jersey and ny) but might be in some other areas down south. I recently got rid of my other crappy boards so I could upgrade but I had a hybrid and a shortboard. Don't even know what the exact specs were. Used the hybrid more. Won't be adding to my quiver for probably another year so dimensions that give some versatility would be ideal. As for skill level I'd say intermediate. Thanks!

Hey Nick, thanks for commenting. Where are you surfing? What's your skill level? Any other boards in your quiver? We'd be stoked to help you pick the right size board but need a few answers first. All the best, Ashlon

Hey Real Watersports,

Love your videos. They've been super informative as I've been researching purchasing a new board. I'm a fairly new surfer (1.5 years) but am looking to transition into a shorter board and expand my range. I live in south florida and mostly surf choppy windswell, although we do get bigger swell on occasion. I'm currently riding an old 7'6" O'neill board. The rest of the dimensions are faded so it's difficult to say, but it's a fairly narrow board (probably like 19" or 20"). It's got a moderate amount of rocker in the nose. It catches waves and is fast down the line with decent maneuverability. But I'm looking for a shorter board that gives me a bit of a more dynamic ride without sacrificing volume. I've been eyeing the short round as a good option but I wanted to here your thoughts. I'm 6'0", 160 lbs, beginner/intermediate surfer. Thanks!

Hey Morgan, We'd reccomend a 6'2, this will offer enough float to get you into waves early but it's still low enough for you to make turns and have fun surfing on. Check out this Lib Tech Construction version, it rides like a poly but has more strength http://www.realwatersports.com/lost-short-round-lib-tech-mbc-6-2

Hey, I am thinking of getting this board but I really don't know what size is good for me. I am 5,10 150lb. I surf Sebastian Inlet in Florida and want something to replace but still have the carving power of my shortboard. I surf waves from 2-6ft. I think I want the 5,7 but I'm not sure. What size do you think? ( Im good fitness and at the intermediate+ level.)
Ryan Burdon

Thanks for the feed back! Considering this board, what fins do you like to run on your short round?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Ryan, Thanks for writing in. At your weight the 5'7 is a great volume. This will be easy to duck dive, it's going offer great hold at speed, and really dig into turns. If you struggle getting into waves and paddling size up but if you are a confident paddler 5'7 will be a great size. Check out this 5'7 EPS we have in stock http://www.realwatersports.com/lost-short-round-eps-epoxy-5-7

Hi Trent, I'm a 5,75" weighing 154lbs, intermidate level,

REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey Badr, Thanks for writing in! At your weight, and skill level a 5'9 stock dimensions Short Round would be a good size, the volume is ~30.7 liters which will be enough to help you glide into waves easily, but not too much so you should not have a hard time duck diving, or confidently setting the rail to really dig into turns. If you have more questions about sizing the perfect board drop us an email realpro@realwatersports.com, or call us (252)987-6000 We would love to talk boards with you! Keep up the stoke. - Ashlon Durham

Any sizing recommendations on this board? Seems like a good board to buy a couple of inches smaller than height.. mid volume range.. but maybe you guys have a better insight.
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
+lestliness thanks for your question. All depends on what you want the board to do and where you want to position it within your quiver. If you want to send us some info about your body weight, skill level, the type of waves you're surfing and what you want to do with this board (grovel? One board quiver? Alternative high-performance?) we can help you choose the perfect size. -Chris Stellato +real watersports

Hi I am a beginner to intermediate surfer and I was wondering what's a good short board for me to move down from a long board I weigh 209 and I am 5'9" and I have had my eye on the list puddle jumper rp in 6'6" for my board what is your opinion and would you recommend a different board
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
+Joseph Spears the PJRP would be a great choice for you. 6'6" has great floatation for you so would be a great choice for transitioning down from a longboard. I think you're looking at the right board! Hope this helps - Chris Stellato +real watersports

wow thank you guys for all the input! i will keep both of your suggestions in mind!! I normally ride a 5'9" so im used to haveing a shorter board @Starvin Marvin even in better waves so i probably would drop down to the 5'7" seeing that it is quite a wide outline. thank you guys rock @REAL Watersports

Hi Trent, would the V3 be more forgiving and easier to ride than the short round?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 9 years ago
@Masonmaddo Thanks for your question. Both boards are in the rocket family so have some similarities, but in my opinion the Short Round is more user friendly because it has a wider nose and tail than the V3 Rocket. Hope this helps! -Chris Stellato @REAL Watersports

Hey there. Thanks for the review. What Channel Islands board would be most similar the short round?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 9 years ago
@Lauren Thomson  thanks for your question.  While there aren't any CI models that are very similar to the ...Lost Short Round, you could draw some comparisons between the outline of the Short Round and the CI Proton.

It's been a while since I've held a Proton in my hands, but I think I remember the Proton having more rocker over-all and being a little thinner/more foiled compared to the Short Round.  Those differences would make the Short Round a little friendlier in less-than-perfect surf.
Hope this helps! -Chris Stellato @REAL Watersports
