I am riding a Stretch RV and absolutely love it! I have been surfing for 40+ years, am 55 years old and after a full hip replacement a year and half ago i was looking for a board that would replace the 6'4 42L Round Nose fish i had been riding. I went for a Stretch RV 6'8 50L with the help of these reviews and other research! I have been using different fin setups, smaller waves and upto just overhead i use a twin fin and knubster, the board flies and is super loose! And anything above back to the tri-fins, all carbon combo. fins which i must add is super important to get the full speed and hold in out of the board. I have 2 boards in the quiver the Stretch RV and another when the waves get larger and heavier i will look to replace my "2nd" board shortly with another of the Lost series - the Quiver Killer! These reviews are the best for guys like myself who have never really known about "concaves", "vee bottoms" etc. that are all crucial in how a board performs! LOVE IT!!

Glad to hear you are stoked on your Stretch RV, thank you for sharing your experience. Good call on the Quiver Killer as well. Cheers - Ashlon

How would you guys compare the Lost Stretch-RV and the Rusty DWART???
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 6 years ago
Hey Craig, Thanks for commenting. The Stretch RV is more drawn out. if you're shooting for a specific volume you will end up on a longer Stretch RV which will be more stable at high speed and better performing in big surf. The Dwart is shorter, thicker, and a touch wider for more speed in small surf, and performance in weak waves.

Hi guys, Thanks for the awesome info/review. I wonder if you could help guide me? I'm a 5'4," 126 lbs woman who only gets to surf a few times a year. Just got back from a trip to Indo (mellow, waist-head high reef breaks) where I stepped down to a 7'0" funboard and enjoyed it. The guides I was surfing with suggested a mod shortboard in about 6'2"-6'4" x 21"-22" width and didn't have a thickness or volume suggestion. Since I can't surf very often, I need something that will be really easy to paddle/catch waves on so I can continue to progress. Interested in the Rusty Muffin Top, RV, Stretch RV or something similar. I assume I'll want something that can be ridden as a quad or thruster, too. I'll be taking it all over the place, so I can't really say what kind of waves I'll mostly be riding, but probably pretty small waves in general. (California beach break, Costa Rica, possibly Bali again, etc.) Thank you so much for your suggestions!

Hey Amanda, Thanks for writing in. I hope you had a good trip to Indo. A Rusty Muffin Top, RV, or Stretch RV all make good board for your conditions, but at your height and weight riding these shapes in a 6'2-6'4 will be tricky. The rails are quite thick, the extra width may be hard to surf, and hold under your arm. Give us a call at the shop (252)987-6000, we'd love to run through some different options with you and figure out the right shape that will cover the range of waves you surf, and work well for your size. I am 185 pounds, 6'4, intermediate, 46 years-old. Current board is 41L. Looking for another all-arounder, easy to paddle and carve turns. Would really like to hear your opinion on the Stretch RV versus the Rusty Smoothie. Was thinking 6-6 smoothie or 6-3 stretch RV. Your thoughts are very much appreciated!

+David Davo - thanks for your question. Not sure but I think the other commenter originally asked about the RV instead of the Stretch RV, so we were discussing the RV and not the Stretch RV there.

Stretch RV definitely better choice for large surf than Short Round, you can be confident that you're new Stretch RV is going to catch bombs. Hope this helps! -Chris Stellato +real watersports

Hola,

I thought that the "Stretch RV" could handle bigger surf and that the "RV" was the one that peaked at smaller surf. I'm 6.1, intermediate, weigh 220lb and live in Puerto Escondido. Although I don't surf heavy Zicatela, I do go in to some larger surf. Also surf some hollow beach brakes in the vicinity. I just ordered a 6.3 Stretch RV but your last comment is making me nervous. Choice number two was the Lost Short Round.

Hello trip, I ve been looking for a new board to step up my surfing, I live in Peru and we got all kind of waves, I own a Lost F1 Stub 6,8 but i feel i can get better in smaller waves with another kind of board, Im 175lb and 6 feet tall, im average on skill but getting better fast because im surfing daily, well my question is should I buy the Strech Rv or the regular RV, the F1 stub is hard for me to turn and im having a hard time to get speed on small waves, should i sell the F1 stub and but the Strech Rv, or keep the Stub and buy the regular RV??
Thanks.

+Nico Fletcher This will ultimately be a matter of personal preference, however most people have been liking larger Quad fins to help give hold and produce drive with the wide tail block. Check out our selection of ...Lost RVs here: http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards/lost/rv

You will notice the majority of the stock RVs come with Futures fins, so be sure your board is FCS before choosing FCS fins. Do you know if you will be using FCS-II (tool-less) or FCS Classic? Let us know which system you're using and we'll help recommend the perfect set. Hope this helps! -Chris Stellato +real watersports

Thanks Trip thats what I will do then . One last question what set of fins would you recomend for me, they have to be fcs. quads or thrusters? thanks.

REAL Watersports - 8 years ago
+Nico Fletcher Thanks for your question. Standard RV is going to be better suited for smaller waves than Stretch RV. My recommendation is keep the F1 Stub and pick up a regular RV, then later down the road replace your F1 stub with something more "sporty" as your skills progress.

Your body weight and skill level should be looking at 5'10" RV. http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards/lost/rv

+xxblazegamersxx thanks for the extra info. At 119lbs and still in the beginner/early intermediate stage, something around 28-30 liters volume should work well for you, and you could even go with a slightly higher volume than that and still be happy. The ...Lost RV would be a great choice for you, for that particular model a 5'7" or 5'8" would probably be a great fit for your situation. http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards/lost/rv

Wide, low rocker, stable and easy to paddle, this board is a winner for people at your skill level.
Hope this helps! -Chris +real watersports

Ive watched most of your videos.Im coming down from mals and longboards...im 6'3, 200lbs.So im a novice shortboarder but not a novice surfer.Ive been paddling and surfing a 6'4 for the past few months.Im still struggling although the board has 46L of volume. There are so many of these boards now on the market, lost bottom feeder,al merrick average joe, lost rv etc etc.
Which board would you recommend for me.I ride beach breaks,1-4ft most of the time?

+Ryan The Rock - thanks for your question. Stretch RV would be a good choice for you as it'd give you some versatility to step into medium-bigger size waves, but still perform well on the smaller days. Go larger than 46L volume if a board that size is already feeling too small. Another great choice for your situation would be the LayZBoy (http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards/lost/layzboy), we have some larger sizes in stock now 50-54L that would be perfect size for you. A fuller nose and some extra paddle power is going to help smoothe out your transition from the Longboard. Hope this helps! -Chris Stellato +real watersports
