2018 Ranger RT 198P w/ Mercury 150 Aluminum Bass Boat Review

Ranger Boats have the reputation of being the best of the best. Now Ranger Boats has introduced the Ranger RT 198P into the bass boat fishing lineup. However, does Ranger Boats make the best aluminum bass boat on the market? The fiberglass vs aluminum argument has been around along time and both sides have good arguments. How does the Ranger RT 198P stand up against the rest of the bass boats out there? In this video I give you a complete run down of the new boat, on the water footage and our personal thoughts on the subject. You tell us... has Ranger Boats done it again? #RangerBoats #BestAluminumBoat #RangerRT198P Cast For Kids website: http://castforkids.org/event/lakechickamauga/ Christina Goins Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/christina.goins.9 Welcome to my channel. Does this boat sit more level in the water than a bass tracker ??

I going to say YES... this will most likely be my next boat, after my 2008 hits the wall.

How dose it run in 2' to 3' rollers?
Rocky Top Splash
Rocky Top Splash - 5 years ago
Ive been out in this boat a few more times since this video... I don't know any bass boat id feel comfortable riding in 3' rollers.. but I can say this one handles everything my 08 skeeter sx190 can/will

I like this boat. Won't break the bank for a weekend fisherman.

I was very surprised, they have come along way. Not the aluminum boat from the 80s-90s for sure

Just got a chance to compare the rangers and the new vexus aluminum boats at the Louisville boat and RV show this last weekend, and it wasn't even close. The vexus blows the ranger away. I'm looking to buy a new boat in the next year and was leaning towards ranger . Not anymore.

I just purchased the 2019 PT198P fully loaded power poles, I pilot trolling motor, 12inch Lowrance on console, 9inch on bow, dual console, 150 pro xs, , and tandem axle trailer TTL $ 44,500.00

Rocky Top Splash - 5 years ago
@ Don Baine buddy im not 100% exact. It was Hixson's boat.. he hadn't had It long. If I remember correctly as it sits Jason paid $28,000 out the door. If need exact let me know I will ask him but I think this is accurate within $2,000

@Rocky Top Splash how much was that ranger with the graphs?
Kevin Clees
Kevin Clees - 5 years ago
don't get me wrong they look and I don't doubt that they will perform well,  but a 19 foot ranger aluminum with a 150 opti or SHO should easily do 60-65 which is plenty fast enough for tournaments. also paired with 2 hds9 screens and a utlrex trolling motor for around 33k(being specific because I seen this exact setup at a dealership), the 19 foot vexus doesn't even base price at that low.
Rocky Top Splash
Rocky Top Splash - 5 years ago
Thanks for the back up LOL.. I think people are really getting out of hand over this vexus company.. why would you put that much money into a company that hasn't been proven yet.. even if you hate a brand over another brand (Ranger vs Skeeter) atleast you know the other company has been around for years. Vexus can just up an vanish one day and here you are with a 60k lawn trophy you bought only because they were the hot new flavor of boats... ill keep my $14,000 skeeter
Kevin Clees
Kevin Clees - 5 years ago
agree with your statement about vexus. built one on their website and didn't get half way through the build before my price was almost 60k.
Rocky Top Splash
Rocky Top Splash - 5 years ago
Yea I disagree with that.. Ranger $32,000 Vexus $45,000 with no extras... way to much for a new company boat. Ranger has more experience and I see nothing about vexus that is special for an extra $10-$15,000. Basically the same layout as the rest of boats.

Aluminum with the injected foam is the way to go. You can get into the nasty stumps without worrying about punching a hole in fiberglass. Never have to re-gel the boat. Better gas mileage etc.
Rocky Top Splash
Rocky Top Splash - 5 years ago
You are exactly right.. I should have bought a aluminum... thanks for watching and leaving your feedback

My boat will only run 48 mph with two people ( 370 lbs) and 3/4 tank of fuel. What do I need to do to get the speed up as most state they are running in the 50 mph plus range? I purchased my boat from C & 0 Marine.

@Haknuman Soksan Thank you for clearing this up !! Do not want to cost people extra cash playing with props.. seriously thanks.
Haknuman Soksan
Haknuman Soksan - 5 years ago
@Lamar Cantrell Raise your motor up a little higher (jackplate) to reduce drag which in turn will increase speed, but be careful not too high or your motor will run hot or blow up due to lack of water intake into the cooling system.
Haknuman Soksan
Haknuman Soksan - 5 years ago
@Rocky Top Splash It's the other way around. Higher pitch = top speed and lower pitch = greater hole shot given the same prop diameter.
Lamar Cantrell
Lamar Cantrell - 5 years ago
I can't get mine in the 50 mph class either around 48 is the best with 23 pitch Mercury prop. I was told it would run 56-58 mph they lied.
Rocky Top Splash
Rocky Top Splash - 6 years ago
Wow.. that's kinda odd.. I may be off because I was going by his gps on the hummingbird, I didn't see the gauge, figured the unit would be more reliable. Speed on a boat is kinda touch and go, you gain and lose a lot on the prop. Check the prop and see what others have on their rig. Don't just go buy one because you can spend $600 and be worse off. Call C&O and see what pitch they recommend.. higher pitch = greater whole shot lower pitch = better top speed . You gotta find that sweet spot and it can be $$$$ to do it. Id prob keep my 48 and just fish. 48-53 you wont even tell the difference when running. Just make dure your running the right amount of rpm to speed. Don't want the motor running harder than its suppose to be to run 48mph. Thanks for watching hope this helps

@Daniel Beavers I use to agree 100%, but honestly they block a lot a lot of wind and now with the newer designs you actually have very close to the same amount of leg room. However, is it a $1000 option ?!? Heck NO ! But people love over spending on boats for some reason. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.. Yes man I agree completely. I looked at them when I was buying my skeeter I just made the decision it was too much money. If I was going to spend 30-$40,000 you getting a lot of boat here and not much more if you go fiberglass in this size range. Your basically getting everything you could want but the advantages of aluminum. We ran all day long runs too.... we might have burned 2 gallon of gas.. literally gallon. My next boat will be an aluminum for sure if they continue to make them like this. Thanks for watching, glad you liked it.

* Sorry guys, there is another rod locker on the left side that holds about 8-10 rods up to about 7'6". Didn't put it in the video, I thought everybody would assume it was there. Hope you guys enjoy the video, let me know if you have any questions. Remember, I ALWAYS check and reply to EVERY comment.

Thanks for sharing this video. I'm definitely looking for a good aluminum boat. At the moment I'm stuck with this tracker for a couple more years. Looking for all the works. Power poles, gps, side imaging, etc.

No problem man, nothing wrong with trackers by any means but as I said in the video, im highly impressed with this one. A lot more room than I thought wed have. We al using 7-7'6" rods and never felt crowded at all. Rides amazing and you can get the power poles and all that on this model.
