I surfed Lower Trestles with Ben out some time around '84. The guy was huge and I will never ever forget his first bottom turn and going vertical - the guy was on the heavy side of 200 pounds easy! The sound and explosion of spray when he crushed the lip is forever burned in my memory. Ben Aipa a true legend forever burned in my mind.

I spoke to Proctor on the phone a while back and we had good conversation but in the end us doing reviews on his boards aren’t going to happen. He’s pretty stoked on catering to his local community and that’s enough for him. His boards look good though. Cheers

That Aipa surfboard model looks great in small waves, that tail probably can´t handle performing in bigger waves as good as the swallow, i ´m just remembering Tom Curren surfing Indonesia in the searching, he couldn´t do it with the double bat tail i guess, anyway i liked very much to watch this review and the surfboard shape is very nice, the surf test was very nice too. Thank you!

Really impressive how it gets speed after you've finished your turn and coming out of the white wash. You're able to make a bottom turn right out of it right into another turn. Sick ride for sure!

Hey Noel, the board looked fantastic under foot and great format to have the shaper in it! I think one of your best reviews to date! One thing you kinda missed is a shot of the rocker from the side, but you get the idea in the review.
I want one now haha! Pretty tough to get one in Europe unfortunately.

@Akila aipa thanks a lot for replying man! Yeah airlines and shipping companies are a bit ridiculous these days. Last week I paid Lufthansa 640€ (about 700$) for taking a 6'4 fishing rod tube to the Andaman Islands from Germany. Same price as the plane ticket was...wtf?

wow - never heard a shaper breaking it down like that, the guy is amazing. Hit HS up to do you a psychodelic germ. Dane Reynolds rode one and claimed it was the best board he has ever ridden (years back though)

This Akila Apia Board looks amazing. Especially at the apex of the bottom turn and top turn. (Not sliding out of shifting from the twin/ wide tail) like many other twins on the market. This Twin appears to have excellent foil in the nose, and just enough curve under the front foot/chest area. Not many shapers know how to shrink this foul down and keep the proper curve for high performance while still keeping the fish esthetics .

I am 100% going to buy this board from this review alone. Thanks again for another amazing review. Best on the net for sure. Yeww!!

Just a Thought. How about doing a "Noel Score" Rate each board In there category Grovel, Performance ect. Put numbers to each. Speed power flow ect. That way we as consumers can have a written spread sheet to refer back too when you review a new board. Yeeew!

@redh i hear ya. i actually rented one of those from clairemont surf a few years ago and was really impressed with it. i'm about 6'2" 215 and used the 5'8" in typical waist high beach break. but of course, getting a proper review is awesome. i would watch noel review a wooden door. twice. so hopefully he does get the chance...

Thanks for this episode, is so stoke to hear someone talk that way knowing why that board is build in that particular way.
One of the reason why I don't like tweens is because that pivot pint wrong places that push you to put the foot so back that it feels unnatural.
