Akila Aipa "Winged Twin" Fin Surfboard Review by Noel Salas Ep.95

Where to Buy: The Surf Station: https://www.surfstationstore.com/collections/aipa-surfboards/products/aipa-twin-1-surfboard Jacks Surfboards: https://jackssurfboards.com/collections/surf-fins/products/futures-t1-honeycomb-twin-surf-fin Surf Ontario (Canada Only): https://surfontario.ca/collections/future-fins/products/futures-akila-twin Surfboard Empire (Australia): https://surfboardempire.com.au/collections/futures/products/amkglasstwinkeel-smoke In this episode I put two 5’5” “Winged Twin” surfboards shaped by Akila Aipa through the paces in 1-5’ surf. The Winged Twin is UNLIKE anything I have surfed before. It has Twin Fin speed, with the agility and quickness from rail to rail like a high performance short board. Some of the obvious attributes that separate the Winged Twin is the pulled in nose and tail that offer excellent pivot for performance surfing. The sleek foiled nose design keeps it free from catching from turn to turn and the reduction in surface area in the tail makes for precise pocket surfing. Order it custom as a Twin Fin or add a center box to shred it as a Twin Fin + Trailer for more control and pivot. I highly recommend the Winged Twin for intermediate to pro level surfers in 1-6’ surf. For you Thruster guys looking for a high-performance Twin Fin this is it. I suggest ordering it with the center box for surfers who do not shred Twin Fins often. My board dimensions in this review: 5’5” x 19 ¼ x 2 3/8 Liters 25.70 (Twin Fin Only) Colored Board 5’5” x 19 x 2 ¼ Liters 24.80 (Twin + Trailer) White Board Recommended Futures Fins: Twin Fins = Al Merrick Keels Twin + Trailer = Akila Aipa Twins + TT1 Trailer fin My Height: 5’9” My Weight: 160 lb or 72.57 kg

Akila laid out his design thoughts so well and the fin area comparisons were a super effective visual! Sick boards!

P A I think in his heats he was riding Tokoro’s. In some of his free surfs I heard he was riding a Twin with a Trailer..

Awesome review!
We had Aipa, Lopez and most other International Shapers including Australian Shapers making these Legendary brands through Our factory back when, up in the roof We had folders of Their Logos.
Ripping on anything as usual, Unreal Stuff.

Noel, so do you like it with the trailer better? I've been on my MR CA Twin ever since I got it a few months back. Such an epic board! How would you compare the Akila to the CA Twin? I understand the CA Twin is more toward the groveler type with the wider/shorter template. Do they feel similar in terms of turning, rails engagements...etc???

@Surf n Show Reviews That's interesting to hear Noel. I've got an MR Twin on order (already had a custom done in CW but they undersized it on accident) because I wanted a super loose groveler. I understand the difference in SW due do the difference in shapes but wasn't expecting anything to be comparable to the MR in getting rail to rail. Curious to hear you expand on this and can't wait to get the MR. I also do have an Aipa Twin Fish and LOVE that thing. Hoping he gets them going in EPS...

Yuno mi Nope... they feel nothing alike. The Winged Twin is agile and extremely quick from turn to turn. Swing weight WT feels like a HPSB and offers similar drive off the bottom and through big rail turns like a HPSB. I prefer the WT as a Twin Fin better.
