After witnessing the murder of his parents as a young boy he devotes his life to getting revenge on the criminals that were responsible for their deaths. He trains mentally and physically and gives himself an alter ego of a bat in order to fight crime in secrecy. He becomes Batman. First appearing in May 1939 Detective Comics #27 as “the Bat-Man” published by DC Comics, he also appears as “the Batman”, “the Caped Crusader”, “the Dark Knight”, and “the World’s Greatest Detective” among many other names. Batman in 1940 got his own comic due to his quick popularity. Batman protects the fictional Gotham City with the help of secondary characters that include; Robin, Batgirl, Jim Gordan , and Alfred Pennyworth his butler. The infamous “rogues gallery” refer to the villains who Batman is out to seek justice upon. Villains include the Joker, the Penguin, Two-face, Ra’s al Shul, the Riddler, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Catwoman, and Bane just to name a few. Bruce Wayne unlike other famous superheroes does not contain any super powers. He uses wit and gadgets that he creates to defeat his foes. Batman along with his Batmobile, the bat signal, and his cape, have become American cultural icons. So many movies have been based off this character drawing A-list actors to tackle the dark role. Actors such as Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and others have fought for audiences’ approval of their portrayal as the Dark Knight. Whether it be blockbuster movies, Batman legos, comic books, TV shows, video games, cartoons or countless other toys one thing is for sure people everywhere are counting on Batman. Introduced in the 2002 Toy Fair the Imaginext system is made by Fisher Price. The Imaginext System was produced to encourage learning as the child is playing it also promoted imagination, solving problems, and develops skills. It was introduced with two themed worlds: Medieval, where children would battle knights with dragons and wizards and defend their fortresses, this play world featured the Battle Castle play set and expanded to the Wizard Tower and Goblin Dungeon play set. The other world was City, based on life in a big city the set focused on rescue and emergency service play sets. This world was very short lived compared to the Medieval world but saw a slight resurrection in 2003 with the Construction Worker and mechanic figures. Other lines were also added to the Imaginext family including: Pirate Raider and Buccaneer Bay in 2003, Phantom line in 2004, Dinosaur World in 2005 and in 2006 they added Imaginext Adventures. Imaginext also added Imaginext Worlds that include fan favorite characters such as; DC Super Friends, Dragons, Robot Police, Toy Story, Dinosaurs and Samurai. Many of the creatures and dinosaurs of the Imaginext line are complete with motorized action. Imaginext released Spike the Ultra Dinosaur in 2011, a 29” remote controlled green dinosaur that blinks his eyes, walks, swings his neck and turns.
