22:15 and I believe converters also don't support all sentences. Garmin is the way to go. I think Ray dropped the ball with their abortion, the Axiom. Not even 2 RayNet ports on the smaller Ax, forcing you to buy an HS5. (26:00) Oh and dont get me started about accessing the chip slot..... IN THE BACK OF THE UNIT! wtf?? .. 33:50. ya Hinckley used to be in bed with Ray, but now that Garmin plays with C zone , its pretty much the standard. I think Ray is struggling hard to figure out how to compete IMO. Like he said earlier. There are no secrets with Garmin, They play nice. They didn't ever use that proprietary crappy STng plug and always stayed standard with device net . Finally Stng has gone away....

36:39 .. this sounds like ' Livechart ' I believe.. very good idea.

If the customer service is on the level as the sport equipment they sell , i would go for a other brand. It’s really poor.

Hi Jan, cannot comment on other Garmin product lines, but the marine segment is really reliable. We've installed over 100 - 200 nav systems a year and Garmin is right up there in terms of reliability .

At 50.28: No it's not mandatory to have AIS onboard your boat in Sweden. The same rules apply for ships as anywhere in the world, but pleasure boats i Sweden do have dem frequently.
We do like the system since it was a Swede who invented the system (and the protocol used for AIS class A, SOTDMA)

Hey Patrick, really appreciate the clarification. Thanks for that. Same here too, only Class A vessels are mandated to have AIS onboard. Class B transponders are voluntary.

The autopilot sensing someone at the wheel is awesome. I want that on my boat.

Yep that shadow drive technology is awesome. Really makes having an autopilot safer.

Jeff, can you keep the slide on an on screen frame? It will be easer to follow the subject being explained. It was great in your last video you paraphrase the public questions that weren't pick up by the microphone. Thank you.

Thanks for the suggesting about Raymarine. Unfortunately, no plan for a Raymarine presentation.

Yes, North Carolina. That's where my boat is. I guess I will just have to keep watching your great videos then. Thank you for creating and sharing them.  Question, will you be doing a Raymarine overview like you did with Garmin?
Pacific Yacht Systems
Pacific Yacht Systems - 5 years ago
Thanks Steve. Assuming NC is North Carolina. In my previous life worked as an engineer in Raleigh. Unfortunately, no planned talking circuit.

Great video. Thanks so much. Totally agree that digital switching is the future. The distributed nature means fewer wires, fewer connections, less chance for rats nests, and lower voltage drop because the truck wires are at a heavier gauge. Physical switches, where they exist, at at logic level power which is safer and again saves weight and reduces circuit length. All positives. Cool features with digital switching not mentioned, include dimming lights or alternating lights, remote control (with GMS modules), programming schedules, and power monitoring each circuit. So you can tell if a bilge pump is running frequently, it can inform you if something is drawing an unusual current.

Hey Jeff, another great video - really appreciate it! Would you consider doing a similar video on the B&G series?

I'd also love to hear your thoughts on the pros & cons of the types of charts - eg CMAP/Navionics/NV Digital?

Thanks Ray for the suggesting.
