This video is about Channel Islands "Bunny Chow" Surfboard Review Ep.#1. Surfboard information with demonstration on how too choose a surfboard for you. This video talks about the surfboard and the construction of the surfboard. The Bunny Chow has been Jordy Smith’s board of choice for his World Tour campaigns in poor to fair surf. Designed around Jordy’s large build and dynamic approach, the Bunny Chow is equally suited to be on rail or the air. Jordy rides his 6’1” x 11.9” x 19” x 15.27” x 2.5” at 31.6L with 5.6” of nose rocker and 2.03” of tail rocker. The Bunny Chow rails are full to provide maximum volume. The rocker is staged to accommodate Jordy’s power.

Hey, thanks for the review !I d like to buy a new board, I consider myself as an intermediate, as I can do the basic tricks in different kind of wave conditions and looking to win power and verticality. As I surf in South west France, waves can be fast hollow waves or long ride unsteep waves. I’m looking for a board that could handle waves from waist size to head size, but that can also handle the mushy sections or the “not too fast” waves.Do you think the bunny chow or the sampler (or another, maybe in the shortboard cathegory) would be the best for me ? Can they handle hollow waves? I m 6’2 ft and 160lbs. I like to surf with a bit more of volume (shorter board and wider) so I was thinking about the 5,11 bunny chow or the 5,9 sampler (both around 29 liters and width around 19). Maybe a shortboard could also have those properties ?If you have any advise...thanks a lot and nice reviews again !

Thanks ! Yes I think the 5’11 would be perfect for me you are right. When I mean small waves its more concerning their power as a 2 feet wave can be stronger than a 4 feet one ! Anyway french break are kinda punchy so Ill go for the 5’11, the shape seems to be adapted to what I expect. Thanks so much again for your help !

A lerpi I think the 5’11 is plenty of float for you... the 6’0” will be too long and hard to turn in small waves. The 6’0” will feel like your turns are in slow motion. How small of waves will you be riding this Fever?

The 6’0 is 29,4L, my bad

A last one noel. Im hesitating between the 5,11 and the 6’0 for the fever (first one is 28L and the other 30L). I can not affort the custom too bad :-)
Do you think the 5,11 could handle smaller waves too (Im 72kilos). Maybe the 6’0 could give me a bit more of volume under the chest but I dont realise how it could influence badly my turns. I have a 28L shortboard right now (the roman by bradley) in 5’11 which is not really forgivable in slow waves, but that might be the shape of it !
Thanks by advance for your help !!

Hey Noel, Have you gotten a chance to ride Jordy's performance model the "Girabbit"? Looking for a good better wave board and given that I am a heavier guy I tend to like shapes designed by Dane and Jordy.

The bunny chow looks really responsive. The Wide point back from center looks to be pretty responsive as well, in terms of getting past the flats witch board did that the best out of the small wave boards in your opinion?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
Miguel Marquina Small wave board ... Sampler for sure. It flys through the flats and highly recommended it for waves 1-4. If your looking for the 2-6 then I recommend the Fever with Groveler Dims. Don't go too wide though.

the bunny chow looks very similar to my ci black flag whip, slightly different moon tail vs swallow and maybe bunny chow has fuller rails

Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
fishskulls76 I had a Whip and did not like it. It has a straight outline compared to the BC and like you said the tails are different. They might look similar in a photo but they don't feel the same under your arm or under your feet.

The BC has its wide point back from center and carried its thickness throughout pretty good too. The BC has good speed down the line it's curvey outline makes it ideal for progressive surfing in the pocket. Well that's my two cents if you were asking.

I gotta say, your surfing on the Bunny Chow here looks top form,… I don't think i'd place your sampler and B&W performances as more compelling in terms of stylish explosive ripping. What do you think?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 4 years ago
I think the BC looks pretty good but a bit slower than the newer models. I think it's the rocker as the newer models seem to have less. As far as turns go the BC still looks sharp. Thanks for the comments and the detailed thoughts concerning our reviews. I dig it!!! Cheers.

great reviews mate and nice rail surfing. ive watched you on the chow and sampler and you seem to draw longer lines on the sampler. i was looking at a 5.10 by 19 3.8 by 2.5 around 30 litres in the bunny chow for 2 to 4 foot days on the beachies in oz. would you go a sampler or chow as a daily driver? im 190 pounds. thanks again mate.

I would go Sampler because its my favorite small wave board. The BC will handle the punchy stuff a bit better because it has more rocker. I got used to riding my Sampler in good waves though. Sampler is so fast..... Cheers

Hey Noel great show man, I have had many great surfers back home (Puerto Rico) highly recommend the bunny chow to me! I'm finally going to pull the trigger I am working out the dimensions and could use some help

6ft tall 160lbs i like what ci recommends for me 5'9" x 18 5/8" x 2 1/4" x 26.5L thats if i put in intermediate for skill level though and I am definitely somewhere in between inter and adv.. Thoughts?

Surf n Show Reviews - 5 years ago
+Dante Sellas Thank you and I am glad you like the show. I think the 5'9 could be really good for you. I am 5'9 and 170 and the 5'9 stock DIMS is what I would use. I just punched in your data on a good board calculator and your range is from 25.8 liters - 27.3 so I would go with the 5'9 BC Stock DIMS. The 5'8 stock BC is 25.1 and that might be to low in VOL. I hope this helps...

I used to ride a K-small swallow as my everyday board, but the last couple years I've been on a few different boards and haven't found a daily driver that feels as good as the k-small did. Do you think the bunny chow would be similar.

the nose rocker  is very curvy, the board you are riding def has a heap of rocker. The board is sticking out of the water from the nose almost to your front foot!

+xwhite2020 Thanks for the comment. It's been a while since I did this review but I still believe the BC has a relaxed entry rocker especially in the custom 5'7 board I was reviewing. If you go to the CI website you will also see that the BC attributes show the entry rocker is somewhere between low to medium. Check it out and let me know what you think. Cheers!

+Surf Show and Tell Reviews I punched in some numbers for a custom BC and this is what I came up with. 5'11 x 20 x 2 9/16 Volume 33.2, This should float you good and not be too long for you. I like my standard boards to be around my height to two inches taller at most. You could also go 5'10 x 20 x s 5/8 Volume 33.6. What do you think about these two board DIMS?
chan ume
chan ume - 5 years ago
+Surf Show and Tell Reviews thanks for the answer WR us 5'11 20"1/2 2'9/16 sampler 5'10 20 2"5/8. i haven't tried the ampler yet but it feels littl bit too thick.

Surf n Show Reviews - 5 years ago
+chan ume Thank you for the props on the reviews and I am glad this helps. I think the BC will be a good transition from the WR. I don't know your current DIMS on the WR but if you are ordering a custom BC make sure you don't go to thick because they carry the volume throughout the entire board. What is the current volume and DIMS on your WR and Sampler?

+fishskulls76 Thanks for the question. No, I have never asked for the shapers at CI to do anything special with the rails, tail, or nose on any of my customs. The Bunny Chow does have a full rail line so I order it a little thinner than the rest of my boards because of that. I hope this helps....
fishskulls76
fishskulls76 - 5 years ago
+Surf Show and Tell Reviews Hey thanks Noel, do you thin out the rails at all on any of your customs?
Surf n Show Reviews
Surf n Show Reviews - 5 years ago
+fishskulls76 The BC and the NF are so far apart in differences but they are both really fun to ride. The BC has a straight outline and the NF has a curvy outline. The tails are completely different as the NF has the classic Merrick hips and the BC does not. The NF has a spiral vee above the fins and the BC has a single concave throughout. Both boards work good in similar conditions but I think CI has given the NF a wider range in wave types because they make the DIMS  as a standard short board and as a groveler. I think the BC can get vertical in the pocket quicker because of the wide point is back from center compared to the NF. I also like the BC because of the tail thickness and design that I could push as hard as I wanted and the board would generate speed through every turn. I hope this answers your question. Cheers!
