I ordered two stock 5’5” x 18 ¾ x 2 5/16 Liters 25.8 in the new CI Spine-Tek construction… one board with Futures Fin boxes and the other has FCSII. I test both of these boards in perfect 1-2’ and 3-4’ surf to find the range that best suits this model. I found the Rocket Wide to be very fast, responsive, and most of all it has good flow in transition from turn to turn. I can honestly say that this board suits my style of surfing best in 1-3’ surf. I highly recommend this board for small waves I think it suits all level of surfers. The Rocket Wide is not only a favorite of Surf n’ Shows for 2018… it’s also my top pick for best Groveler for 2018 in 1-3’ surf.
I am same height as you 5'9 but I'm 18.5 pounds heavier. So me = 178.5 pounds or 81kg.
The thing is, I want to draw the same lines as you do.... (I prob never will as you absolutely rip! I'd love to see you wildcard into an event and surf against KS!!)
My question is, can I just get same length and width board, but just make it thicker? I'm thinking if I go wider or longer my lines would be more drawn out??
I'm no maths genius, but playing around on the calculator:
So for you 5'5 x 18 3/4 X 2 5/16 = 25.8 litres
Your weight 72.5kg divide by 25.8 litres = 2.81
Don't ask me what the 2.81 means, maybe litres per kg??
Me @ 81kg divide by 2.81 = 28.8 litres
So maybe my dims would be 5'5 x 18 3/4 x 2 9/16 = 28.6 litres or go 18 7/8 to get 28.8 litres.
For you to have the same board but at 2 9/16 it might be maybe a corky feeling, not able to sink a rail etc...but for me maybe it would feel good because maybe I can sink the rail better being heavier?
Does my thinking sound right or am I off the planet?
Otherwise for me to get 28.8 litres and a stock board dims I would have to go 5'7 x 19 1'4 x 2 7/16.
*Keep the reviews coming mate, love watching the show with my favourite drink, sitting back!
For your liters I think a better formula is take your weight in pounds and divide it by 6. So 180 divided by 6=30 liters. If you like your boards ultra responsive then maybe 29.
I think the stock 5’8” sounds about right in PU and EPS should go good too.
I like the Gremlin for 1-4’ surf and it does pocket surfing pretty good. Very fast down the line but not a lot of tail rocker.
I’m about 140lbs and ride 24.5L in my pu shortboards. Going to get rw in spinetek, you think the stock 5’4 (24.4L) or a custom 5’5 with thinner dims? I felt up the stock 5’5 (25.8L) but felt a bit chunky for me. I’ve over volumed an eps board before and hated it so a bit shy to higher volume

The NB2 can do it all very well... the 1 board quiver. It’s the best Daily Driver I have ridden to date. 1-6’ surf this NB2 shines. Good speed, performance, airs, sick off the bottom. You cannot go wrong with either. Both boards excel in mushy waves. Cheers
Btw, wich fins you've choose for that 3 4' f surf?
Do you think that any other fins could fix it? Maybe speed control series...
Thank you again
I sell out 3 boards to renovate my quiver, and now I have these boards: (I am 6,2 185 lbs in shape.)
6,2 rook 15, to difficult to make turns, feels like good board only for experts, but solid.
5,11 gamma helium beach model ( not hp )
5,9 go fish for small days and to feel a good fish
I think it’s enougt for 1-8 feet but...
I want another board and feeling to surf small waves 2-4 feet when I look for fun not to practise my surfing like the gamma surfing.what would you recommend me?
Rocket wide, holy grail, neck beard 2

Thanks!
between the sempler or th rocket wide.
tnx
The Modern Two has a Groveler feel to it with a lot of foam forward. Good speed and rail to rail surfing but no match for the RW when it comes to performance surfing.
My thoughts are not on the boxes being empty and affecting water flow. I am sure there are some issues there but not too worried about that.
For me it’s more about flex in the tail.... 3 fin boxes will minimize tail flex and 5 fin boxes even more. I don’t think I realized how much it affects the flex until I tried some glass on fins.
I say have fun and if you like Quads then you should try it and if your worried about water flow then use the inserts when your not rocking the Quad set up.
my actual groveler is a PU Lost Bean Bag 5'4'' 35lt.
I am 70kg and 173cm, what size/construction do you suggest me for the Rocket Wide?
Thanks a lot.

Another set of fins to consider for the RW is the AM Twin + Trailer. They are very upright and go insane in the RW.
Its actually a good board for our "good days"/ better days here in Florida. Surfed it on some hurricane swell today and super happy with it.
167lbs. 6’ and currently surfing the pod mod 5.6.. thanks

I have not tried the Black Box 2 yet. Been asking for one to review...
Looks like a fun board. Curious if you are going to review the Chilli Black vulture?
Thanks!
Actually i surf a Holy grail in 5'9 for 29,5L, i love this board, but i like to have à groveler to replace my tomo Evo. This board seem perfect, but do you think to choose the 5'8 and 30,3L it's too much to surf little conditions ?
Once again you have educated me, have watched every review & have a quiver full of your favourites so thank you!
Quick question regarding the your recommendation for choppy beach break wind swell (2/3ft) waves in Queensland East Coast Australia? Have heard u say in the past (and agree) epoxy boards do move around a bit more so thinking PU for sure. My level is sometimes intermediate & weigh 160 pounds height 5’10”. Thinking OG or Rocket Wide?
Have a fever and holy grail plus puddle jumper in CW - love em all but don’t like the lost stealth (in PU). Any info would be awesome!
P.S how about a review on JS Air17x?
Just type in Surfboard reviews in the You Tube search button and you find other board reviewers.
One board you should check out is the CI Weirdo Ripper. Great performance board thats short and full of volume. Love that board.
Now I am not sure I understand the question you have about moving your feet around. Please ask me again and reword it so I can try to understand your question. Sorry
How does the Rocket Wide compare head to head with the Uber Driver?? I'm in Fl so we don't have the push your waves have. Out of the two boards which do you feel might have the better/quicker performance feel?
Also will you be doing any DHD reviews? Specifically the DNA.
Uber Driver
Physco Killer
OG Flyer
Or
Rocket Wide
I am 5.9 and the 170 pounds.
At my age and level of surfing I need at least 30 liters.
I wonder between the lost puddle fish carbon wrap 5.5
Or ci rocket wide 5.8.
What is your recommendation ?
You got me in a pickle. Rocket wide or puddle jumper HP??

You liked them? Different ride than the Honeycomb?
Decisions to make. I have a Puddle Fish in which I've had so much fun in but I'm starting to feel the board become to big for me. My surfing has improved I can feel the extra volume of the Puddle Fish get in the way in terms of its volume compared to my weight.
The rocket wide and the Mod Pod are on my radar both looked great under your feet. The Mod Pod looked better in the bigger surf though. Keep up the awesome reviews, oh and those prototype fins looked great with lots of speed and drive.
