Thruster or Quad on the Nautilus? What are the benefits an cons of each set up? Looking for a board for big winter mushy point surf.

J John, All of the stock Nautiluses come as a thruster but we can order a quad (or 5 fin) as a custom order. The Quad Fins will set more of your rail into the wave and give you more speed down the line with swooping turns. The Tri set encourages more pivotal turns off of the tail. Do you usually ride tri or quad? If you're on the fence we recommend ordering a 5 fin set so you can experiment with both. Cheers - Ashlon

Hello,
I was wondering how the maneuverability is on the board. I am sizing down from a flat tracker to potentially a tru fin 6'6 nautilus so I can get more maneuverable on the wave and start getting more consistent on cutbacks, snaps, floaters etc without having to go down to a traditional he perf shortboard. Would you say this board would be correct for that? Also I typically surf in dumpy beach break type waves but I also sometimes surf a flatter reef style wave on some occasions, would this board suit even flatter waves ok? Thanks a ton for always being so informative!

REAL Watersports I literally just picked up a 6'6 today, thank you so much for your input. I haven't had a chance to surf it just yet. I weigh about 170 and am also lower at times and have been surfing a 7'4 flat tracker that goes really well for me. I noticed the lower end was a 6'6 so I hope it's not gonna be too small but it seems like it'll definitely float me super easy and I'll be able to get in nice and early.

Hey thanks for commenting, The Nautilus is much more maneuverable than the flat tracker and you are on the right track. Its a really versatile shape, the full nose gives you tons of speed to handle lower angle surf while the pulled in fish tail and tri setup gives you tons of hold when your going fast on hollow waves. How much do you weigh and what size flat tracker have you been surfing?
