The 3DX is a small wave performance board for waves in the 1-4’ range according to the DHD website. The first day of shooting the surf report said 2-4’ surf so we waxed it up and began the testing process. The set waves were a bit overhead and to my surprise this 3DX handled the bigger surf very well. We spent 6 days shooting on this board as a Thruster and a Quad in waves ranging from 2-6’. I had a great time on the 3DX and I highly recommend this board for surfers in the intermediate to advanced skill levels. This board was made custom for me and the DIMS are 5’6” x 19 x 2 ¼ Liters 26.2. I am 5’9” and I weigh 160lbs or 72.57kg. Board description from the DHD website.(www.dhdsurf.com) THE 3DX is all about more Volume, more Waves & more Fun. The 3DX is designed to get you into waves with ease and will generate speed and flow in weaker conditions while performing lively & loose in all types of waves. Loaded with a wider outline through the nose and tail and a volumised rail will redefine your wave count and explore new maneuvers. Best suited for everyday surfing with average wave condition from 1 to 4ft. I really like the Neckbeard 2 and Rocket Wide too for 1-4’ surf. Also check out the Pyzel Phantom
3DX vs 3DV vs Js Monstabox
What are your thoughts?
Assume 3DX = easier to use and more range
3DV = more perf for 2-4ft
And
Monstabox = combo of the above but more hi perf?
Anyway, who cares what the manufacturer says, it’s really what works for you. I’ve had some “small wave” boards go amazingly in overhead surf, it’s really more about what you want from a board.
Great surfing and I love the reviews.
Check out Xcell... this season they have a sick Comp X in burgundy that I just got. Sick color and they make it in 4/3mm too. I just got one and it’s epic!!!
What’s you favorite small wave shortboard currently? I’m looking to practice more airs but it’s been pretty much 1-4 foot lately. I Surf off my front foot.

Have you tried an Omni or Cymatic?
I think you should.

One advice : don't stop the sequences when you analyse the wave and board reactions. it's really really nice to watch, we learn a lot ! cheers.
