The second model from new German brand Bente, the Judel Vrolijk designed 39 is littered with fresh thinking. But does disruptive style translate into usability? Thanks for the review - they are always appreciated - and the boat itself warrants a second look simply by virtue of being so different. However, I take issue with the categorisation of "cruiser" - maybe day cruiser, or weekender - but I cannot see myself warming (so to speak) with a number of aspects: the very exposed helm position, the funky controls for the running rigging, the pilot station that's surely seamlessly superfluous on a 39', the restricted headroom that would definitely result in copious amounts of swearing, and most obviously, the polycarbonate coachroof that would be a disaster in terms of thermal transference, both allow far to much sun/heat in during summer, and all the heat out during winter. There are some aspects to the interior that are certainly interesting, and she looks a fast boat, but it's all just a little try-hard isn't it..?

LOL. I sailed a boat with a pilot house across the Pacific in the 1970s. It didn't have a fat stern, so no twin rudders. No jibs or genoas, so no reason for twin cockpit helms. Full headroom for me, at over 6' high. Rig that could be reefed or furled on any point of sail, at any wind speed, with no electric motors involved. Helm in the pilothouse, as well as in the cockpit. Huge sail area for a 34' boat, with no sheet winches. Disruptive? It's still going strong, 50 years later.

cruising yacht?.. oh please... flat hull, broad beam and ikea corners... what a joke.. take it for a 3-4 day offshore passage then talk about cruising boats...racer/overnight?..sure, but cruiser?.. get a grip

A lot of naysayers here, but for myself, wow, I really love this boat. I grew up on and admire classic monohulls but they are dark and I love that this is bright and clean and open. It's just the size I want for my family. The price is certainly reasonable and in line with other boats this size. Hoping to buy something in 5-10 years time. This is definitely going to be high on my want list.

Such an ordeal to have to keep fiddling with the volume on these vids with Toby whispering and then the music suddenly blasting.

An interesting yacht. Good to see new design concepts being trialled. Swing keel version sounds especially interesting, particularly if she is able to dry out without damage when the keel is raised for shallow water adventures.

Huge polycarbonate windows. Yikes. Do you fancy crazing, scratches, and yellowing?

As others have already said....You'll cook in a warm climate , you wont see many of these cruising the Pacific

Finally, a yacht for Little People. No, that round thing is not a Jacuzzi, it's called a 'head'. The stove only has two burners, one for tea, the other to keep your pot of porridge on the boil, mate. That stainless steel bucket built into the counter - that's the Jacuzzi. It doubles as a lap pool. This is the only yacht specially designed for Little People, which is obvious when you see that the dinghy doubles as guest accomodations for the in-laws and the tribe of squatter neighbors. But it doesn't have a Jacuzzi, just a bucket and a rope, so the nasty neighbors can tie the in-laws by the heels and give them a good dunking on Saturday nights. Don' t worry about the cost, it comes with its own TV show, Little People Meet The Nasty Neighbors and Sing Italian Opera.

how solid is the steering linkage? the gooseneck? where's the life raft? but it certainly is bright inside,.

another review that says nothing about the boat except how it looks.

I am sure this is a well-built craft, but personally, it's too spartan for my taste.

It is like a German aluminium version of a RM 1180/1270.

If they slightly revise the saloon/cockpit transition to be more practical & extend the sprayhood a little, it'll make a decent higher latitude boat.

I was think exactly the same, perhaps no bad thing. Americans won't like it with their love of long keels and slow boats.

Lovely and I like the light, but that cabin will be a toaster oven on a sunny summer day. Passive solar gain will make it an uncomfortable place. Pity, as its otherwise a lovely boat...

Can’t decide if Toby matured and became a great reviewer,or this boat is simply that good by itself :)
Either way it should turn heads for scandinavian(UK also) sailors. But for sure its not for the medditeranean or god-forbid real tropics.
Cheers

Twin helms seem to be the masturbatory requirement, even for small boats that don't gain any extra vision.

Lovely open areas for your body to fly thru in rough weather. Also, I don't want a sailboat with portholes in the bull below the waterline when heeling.

It will be as warm as in a greenhouse and the sailors will be dehydrated after a sunny trip.

First off, who spends the day down below while sailing? Not anyone I know. You spend it on the cockpit or deck, where you get a lot of sun too. Secondly, in the case these windows don't have UV and heat filters by default you can simply buy film from any hardware store that will block UV and the heat and or figure out how to add curtains.
