I think you should've owned those boats to begin with. Here if you win the bid you own everything in it period.

Wood boat is old school Chris craft. Boat is probably worth 15-20k. The sailboat not worth more than $500

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS HOW TO SAIL, YOU CAN ASK ME... ALSO BE SURE TO HAVE AN ELECTRIC TROLLING MOTOR WITH YOU. YOU MAY NEED A GAS OUTBOARD TO LEAVE THE HARBOR. BY LAW.

Dude! You could have made some serious coin, next time reach out to someone who knows boats work with them and make a deal. The correct craft is big bucks. Next time reach out to me :-) good job on the sailboat that’s a good one too.

It’s a good thing not to buy a wood hulled boat. Massive up keep. If you want to insure, after you do all the repairs, the hull has to be certified. Many people love the nostalgia of the wood, but most of us just want to water ski and cruise around. Enjoyed your video. The dealing was great.

As the boats were in the locker and you had already bought the locker, the boats are legally yours, so when they were taken out by the manager of the units, he quite literally stole the boats from you and then had them removed so you could not get them. The towing company have also broken the law by accepting and selling them. Sue both the storage unit owners and the towing company for every cent they have.

I think a lot of people thought that wood boat was a early to mid 1950's boat. I've seen 1957 models with working motor and in excellent garage kept condition selling for 8-10 thousand. 1964 and later not so hot resale value. Congrats on getting the sailboat.

A VERY shady scheme between the Storage Facility and the Towing Company. Kept the boats in the locker to get higher bids and then get the Towing Company to sell them from their lot. Very, very shady. I hope a local lawyer can give a legal opinion on the legality of this scam. And I hope the storage facility and towing company both file for bankruptcy in the near future and get wound up. Anyway, good luck with the sailboat. You will have heaps of fun.

Jack - Do I get a cupie doll for guessing the boat curse was lifted?  Congrats on the acquisition.  Enjoy the boat for a little while.  Glad we got some closure on this.  That vintage 1964 boat was still a steal.  The interior on that and the outside was in incredible shape.  But I can understand not wanting to take a chance on it without having 1st hand knowledge of the motor condition and value.  Have a good one....Greg

I have posted a comment recently on your previous 2 videos in regards to the boats and locker. I mainly explained on your first video roughly how the system works and I am hoping this will help others better understand what actually transpired and how the process works according to the laws. It’s clear to me now that Public Storage in that area uses this tow company do handle cases like this instead of dealing with them themselves. Public Storage could care less about any monies made on these boats or any other titled vehicle after all they are such a huge company. The tow company acquires any and all expenses and hopes to make some money in the end.
The sail boat in my opinion was a very fair price sense you had the accessories- trailer and parts to it. The sail boat would have been worth in my opinion about $1,000 roughly as they can be expensive new. The wooden boat for someone was a decent price but who knows if the engine and gear box is even good. These boat like others in that time frame used a special engine no longer made today. But someone with the experience could hopefully rebuild or install another in its place if it was bad. Some of these wooden boats will really leak once put in the water and the wood needs time to expand at their joints and still no guarantee that a seal on the propeller shaft won’t leak. I have seen some sink once put in the water and the owner has no idea that the wood needs to expand at its seams. I have completely rebuilt wooden boats and it is a very costly and time consuming task. Thank You
P.S. BTW I subscribed to your channel for what it’s worth.

I'm still calling a legal foul .against the storage facility There is no law supporting their policy in California. You could file for title and use your paperwork from the storage auction to prove ownership.
Netti Charles
Netti Charles - 4 years ago
The more expensive parts of the boats are the engine (if it works) and the hull (if its sound), without proof of either of those the boat isn't worth as much as people are quoting. The sail boat is a much better bet.

@Locker Nuts everyone that buys a boat ends up wanting a bigger and bigger one the bigger foot disease 10" then 12' then 30' so and so on and the $$$$ go into the water.

I don't know what that is, but sounds like it won't make a good video.

Put didnt you pay for them already at the auction... I hope you were able to get the money back for the auction you paid on based on the fact that they didnt disclose that the boats were not a part of the unit. How shady.

The very best wooden boats in Australia aren't worth shite... I had a Lewis clinker built 19' centre mount inboard, in reconditioned state with a crate motor readyto go in, it was worth $2,800 when I sold it and I made 300 on it. Clinker, or wooden boats are a pain to actually use. Big heavy and leak until they are seasoned correctly...

I don’t get it. You all won the boats in the locker, then they had them towed....makes no sense.

@Durk Copeland OrthodoxAtheist is correct. Jack spoke on that. They could have hooked up the boats and taken them but then he probably would be banned from bidding on units in that facility and possibly all the ones that network through the auction company . I am not saying it doesn't suck. I am saying what happened was how it works here
OrthodoxAtheist

@Durk you're right, Jack could've just made off with the boats. He then may have been black marked by the storage facility, and all similar facilities in the same network, which over the lifetime of his locker buying stint, would likely have cost him more. If you're told the rules up front, those are the rules, and by engaging in the auction you're accepting those rules as immediately stated, on video, prior to the auction. Its basically matter of character. Jack did the right thing, and ended up getting a fun boat for a steal that he can easily make money on, after a bit of fun. Go watch the prior video Jack referenced. He covered the matter quite comprehensively.

They say the best two days in a boat owner's life is the day he buys it, and the day he sells it. Great negotiating - $350 is a steal. With the pieces they kept from the storage unit, its an easy $1,500.

@Durk Copeland I believe Jack said that at the beginning of the auction the regional manager told the bidders to bid on the locker WITHOUT the boats. So they had warning at the beginning of the auction that the boats were most likely NOT going to be included in the auction.

Thanks Karlene for clarifying that. We put out an update yesterday that also discussed this very topic, and can be seen here:

Because in California ( I am not sure of other states) most vehicles have to have go through the lien process. That particular storage company does not deal with that process so they have the vehicle towed (like any business owner would ) to a towing yard usually and the tow company starts the lien process

you should of registered and placed a bid.Over time your low bids on other items, he may take a liking to you.Accepting a bid from them is arbitrary and relationship building changes everything. We learn as we go

@Locker Nuts, A small sailboat like that requires very little (or no) maintenance. Sails can get old and need replacing, but a sail can last 10 - 20 years depending on how much it's used and how it's stored (store it out of the sun). As for sails, I've got a 20' sailboat made in late 1972 with its original sails and they will be good for year to come. The prior owner sailed it very little. Oh, and check the bottom of the sailboat. Look for cracks that could go all the way through the hull. And when you put it in the water check to see if water is seeping into the boat. There are probably view ports where you can check on this. Good luck

I never heard that abbreviation. Hope it's not true on this one! I have a feeling the wood one would have been a money pit though.

MAN! it was a steal to get those boats back for 3k. Some boat shops are even able to cosign the boat and pay you when it sells! That Correct Craft would've sold for 15k ALL DAY!

I agree with Stephen. But the wood one was still probably a good value at $1,500, money to be made, just not what I like to deal with.
